[#22] Max Tonetto:
Quote:
Roma defender Max Tonetto has admitted that he does have dreams of a first Italian call-up given his impressive form this term.
The 31-year old, who arrived in the capital on a free transfer from Sampdoria last summer, has excelled at the Olimpico which has seen him catch the eye of Italy boss Roberto Donadoni.
“I’m pleased to hear that Donadoni has been saying nice things about me,” stated the full-back on Wednesday. “The Nazionale is a dream for everyone and I hope this dream comes true.
“However, I am mainly flattered by [Roma boss] Luciano Spalletti’s words of praise for me this season.
“This is a very important moment of my career as I had never played for such an important club before.”
Tonetto’s move to Roma has also offered him a Champions League adventure and he’s looking forward to the Manchester United clash after they disposed of Lyon in the last round.
“My debut in the competition was one of the most exciting things ever,” he noted.
“Walking on to the pitch and hearing the Champions League anthem is something that I have always wanted.
“It will be great to face Ryan Giggs and Cristiano Ronaldo and I am looking forward to playing in George Best’s stadium.”

He's done well since arriving in Rome but unfortunately for him there's a lot of competition at the LB position for the NT (Grosso, Pasqual, Chiellini, etc).
You never know though, he might get a call up for the Scotland game.

Grosso, Pasqual are definitively ahead of him. I've been really impressed with his performance this year. Good pace, makes his runs.....at times he can get caught or players have made their way past him, but i can't complain. I prefer Grosso or Pasqual...but would like it if Tonetto made an appearance in a friendly at some point. Just to show his work has paid off. But not for a real game.

If tonetto continues like this then I am sure he will get at least one call up! Good for him, glad he is aiming high like Rosina!

Rosina is much younger and has a bright future a head. It's kind of late for Tonetto to crack into the lineup. And as Joel said...LB is pretty covered.

Well Grosso has had a poor season, he got injured early on and he's been in and out of the side ever since. Chiellini is in Serie B, so that really rules him out and even Zambrotta has been questionable this season.
In terms of performance only Pasqual can really compete with Tonetto this year, it's just a case of whether Donadoni sees it that way.

I think Donadoni will go with the regulars. He will stick with the Zambrotta, Cannavaro(maybe) Matrix and Grosso. Maybe Tonetto will be called as a sub...but i doubt it. Pasqual should be the first replacement, as he's young and can gain experience. Tonetto has already missed his chance.

Quick and aggressive going forward.
If only he was 10 years younger.

I know, it's just if he was younger he'd be able to compete with the likes of Grosso and Pasqual at future tournaments. He'll have fallen off the radar by the next WC though.

Yeah, good point.
If he was right footed he may have had a chance, we're fairly limited in that position.
