Roma plot Mutu swoop

Roma plot Mutu swoop Thursday 27 December, 2007
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Reports in Italy claim that Roma are ready to spend big in January to secure the services of Fiorentina star Adrian Mutu.
The Romanian international has been in fine form since moving to Tuscany from Juventus, with Rome-based newspaper Corriere della Serra reporting that Giallorossi are preparing to splash the cash.
The purse strings have been tight at the Stadio Olimpico in recent years, but it is believed that Coach Luciano Spalletti will be given money to spend when the transfer window opens on January 1.
After falling behind Inter in this year’s Scudetto race Roma are reportedly prepared to splash the cash to keep up with their big-spending rivals.
Spalletti’s main target is thought to be another striker to bolster his options in attack, with Francesco Totti and Mirko Vucinic his only choices at the moment.
However, there is no guarantee that Mutu would want to leave the Viola, as the 28-year-old has repeatedly announced he is happy in Florence

hmm now he will be great addition but not to the length off over spending.besides im not sure viola are going to let him that easily nor cheaply.
since we can get better players for that large amount of cash.but if we can get him in a considerable price tag then it would be a good move.
wth the tough cl draw's and we could certainly use his talents to strengthen our attack options and make totti/vucinic more independent.

He can play in the CL? UEFA cup doesn't count?
I honestly don't think this is a good move for a variety of reasons.
Roma need to add depth, in terms of box strikers who are somewhat proven in Italy.
Mutu is going to be expensive, and a playmaker. Roma don't need playmakers, they have plenty.

You can play CL and Uefa for different teams in the same season, as far as I know.

He's not what you need and he's too expensive anyway.

If he does come Spalletti will play him on the left which is something we dont want!
He's a great player upfront.Vucinic is young as well.I'd give him more time.

Viola tighten Mutu grip Saturday 29 December, 2007
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fiorentina sporting director Pantaleo Corvino has scotched rumours that star striker Adrian Mutu will join Roma in January.
The Romanian hitman is a crucial figure at the Stadio Artemio Franchi with nine goals to his name so far this season.
Recently there have been suggestions that Roma will make a bid to lure the ex-Chelsea star in January to strengthen their front line for a Scudetto challenge, but Corvino insists Mutu is staying put.
“Have I heard that Roma want Mutu? Yes, but Adrian will stay with us,” he told the Corriere dello Sport.
“We have no intention of selling him. He still has a long contract and we have built a project around him.”

Dead deal from the start, how can they get rid of him? He's the main threat for them. Great move by them to pick him up.
