Brighi enjoys Spalletti faith Monday 13 October, 2008

Roma may be struggling but midfielder Matteo Brighi has a smile on his face as he has finally broken into the first team.

The former Juventus man was once seen as one of Italy's brightest prospects but he had to settle for playing a part at Chievo and warming the Roma bench in recent times.

However, Brighi has finally impressed Luciano Spalletti enough to secure a starting shirt in the capital this term and his agent has seen the effect on his client.

“It has been a good start for him, even if it hasn't been so good for the team,” Vanni Puzzolo said.

“Matteo has played more games than last year and is playing from the start.

“In a week, Spalletti chose him as a starter three times and that has never happened in Rome.

“Brighi gave a good account of himself, although it has been a tough time to shine for the Giallorossi.

“When you really embrace a project, it is because you believe you can play a part and Matteo feels he has the trust of his Coach and the club.

“I'm sure that my client will be staying here for a long time and will succeed with the Lupi.”

the only reason he is starting is bcoz we have so many injuries and suspension and not to mention old players we have brought in.

any who he is yet to impress any one.

He's had 3 excellent matches.He's really impressed.Along with Aquilani and De Rossi, Brighi has played exceptionally well in a 4-1-4-1 formation where he is protecting the defence wich allows DDR and Aquilani to go forward quite a bit more.

he is the only one impressed not in terms of form tho.we still lack in all departments wth injuries and suspension.

Are you saying he is the only one impressing?Surely thats got to do with form though since he's playing well.I believe he Aquilani De Rossi and finally Mexes are showing good form and are playing well.Too bad Mexes is banned for the next 3 games.

lol no...what i meant was he the is only one in our team that thinks himself has impressed, but everybody else thinks otherwise

all i can say he can be a good sub for ailing tiring legs but not change a game nor deserve a starting spot on a normal conditions.

Brighi can't believe Euro brace Wednesday 26 November, 2008

Matteo Brighi was amazed at scoring a brace in the Champions League and thanks the new system for his Roma revival.

“They are my first goals and I hope they will be followed by others. It was important to win, we are doing well in Europe and hope to continue that form in Italy as well,” he said of the 3-1 win away to Cluj.

“It was very cold tonight and we were fortunate to break through early on. We also had the chances to get more, but were content with the result.”

Brighi was ready to leave in the summer after warming the bench and occasionally the stands, but the new diamond midfield has seen him become Roma's best performer.

“With this system I have more opportunity to push forward and that suits my characteristics more, but also the overall spirit of the side has helped our revival.”

Francesco Totti got the other goal with a splendid free kick curled into the top corner that sends Roma top of the group ahead of Chelsea.

“Francesco is crucial for us and he had to start the campaign with limited fitness. Now he is back in shape it affects the whole team and really shows through.”

Roma’s new hero Matteo Brighi reveals his ambitions and how he went from benchwarmer to fan favourite.

The midfielder has been the greatest beneficiary of the new diamond midfield system and scored two goals in their 3-1 Champions League victory away to Cluj.


“I was convinced that hard work would pay off and, knowing I could count on the faith of the Coach, I continued training in silence,” explained the 27-year-old.


“Now the fruits of my labour are clear to all.”


His career seemed to have gone off the rails, as from a young hopeful at Rimini and Juventus, who he joined in 2000 for just one season, loan spells failed to fulfil that early promise.


He spent time at Bologna, Parma, Brescia and Chievo before Roma signed him in 2007.


In the summer Brighi wanted to leave after just nine Serie A appearances last season, but has been decisive this term.


“After a difficult start to the season, we are having some great moments,” he told Sky Italia television.


“It will be important to continue this positive run against Fiorentina so we can close on the top of the table as quickly as possible.”

still a long road to the top now, we dont want to get too hyped.and our strength and desire will be tested in this tough match.
