[#20] Simone Perrotta
He has snubbed many clubs to remainw ith Roma for the longhaul, but may go back home one day. He's an integral part of this club and is irreplaceable. He's boned with many of the Roma players and Roma is his home.
Quote:
Perrotta snubs Premiership Simone Perrotta may have been born in England, but he has no desire to play in the Premiership. “I would never want to play abroad.”
The Roma midfielder had his early years in Ashton-under-Lyne, but when he returned with the World Cup trophy, he took it to what he considers his hometown – Cerisano.
“For me, it is always a pleasure to return to Cerisano, because it is the only place where I feel at ease,” he said.
“Here I am not just a player, but the everyday Simone. When I left home I had an objective, to honour my surname and the name of my town. Perhaps at the end of my career I will return here.”
Perrotta has been linked with Manchester United, Arsenal and a series of top European sides, but has no intention of trying the Premiership experience.
“I am not even remotely considering it. I am extremely close to Roma. I didn’t leave when the waters were choppy, so I certainly won’t be walking out now.”
This year he extended his contract with the Giallorossi until 2010, despite the offers that flooded in after his World Cup performance.

I think because he came to Italy in 2001 i believe and he wasn't established as a great player then in his Chievo days. Rossi is a different story...he's great at scha young age. Maybe that's why.

Ya, that's probably right Duke, as he was wanted for USA NT, but opted for Italy.

Perrotta left England when he was only about five years old though, he's been in Italy for most of his life.

His work rate is his biggest strength, that's why he's a regular for Roma and Italia.

That's why Joel is the #10 of the Calcio forum...he knows everything!!!
It's nice that Perrotta still recognizes his childhood and respects England. You can tell that all his fame as not gone to his head. Class act!

You want a humble athlete. Read up on the Niedermayer brothers. Scott and Rob drive to the arena in some sort of Hybrid car that looks like an ECHO. Ugly ca, but they are environmentally friendly where there co teammates are in BMW etc.
