He said: "It is my fault that Francesco Tavano has not been in the spotlight. Today he played from the start and was able to showcase his qualities. The fact he scored a goal proved he really belongs in a 'big' club."

Valencia striker Ciccio Tavano wants to stay with Roma beyond the end of this season.

Tavano impressed in Sunday's victory over Catania and said: "I had a tough time at the start of the season, but I kept my head down and worked hard in training. Now things are going better and I hope to stay with Roma.

"It's the dream of every player to play in Rome. We're a great squad, a great team and I hope to be part of it next season."

£7m for a guy who will most likely sit on the bench and possibly play once every 5 games...or make a 5 minute sub appearance each game. No way...but if Roma want to build a strong squad, they need depth. Spend the money so when important games come up and we are missing players like Perrotta aka CL...we can play a Tavano in some spot. Thankfully he won't be cup tied...that really hurt Roma.

Tavano is a very if-fy player...if he stayed that would be great, hes creative, sees football differently to others on the team, and a good backup...but, if he were to leave, i wouldnt mind so much...hes got great qualities but i cant imagine him to do something extraordinary for the team...but i would love to be proved wrong here

For 7M...Roma would be crazy to spend that on a reserve player...but i agree...he is a good backup. If Roma can get him for cheap...i say go for it...but unlikely.

Empoli coach Gigi Cagni is backing Valencia striker Ciccio Tavano to prove himself at Roma.

Tavano has struggled since leaving Empoli last summer and Roma are still to decide whether they will sign him permanently at the end of this season.

But Cagni says: "I'm sure he will do well at Roma if they sign him. If Tavano is given a chance, then I'm certain he'll be successful with Roma."

Tavano's future in doubt

Francesco Tavano might not extend his stay with Roma, according to the forward’s agent.

The former Empoli star joined the capital city club in January on a loan deal after he failed to settle in Spain with Valencia.

The Giallorossi reached an agreement with the Liga outfit, which gave them the option to buy the player outright for £7m before the end of May.

“There is no news for now,” admitted Tavano’s agent Stefano Guercini to Radiocalciomercato.com on Monday.

“Roma are completing their evaluation of the player and I think that the issue will be solved after the Coppa Italia Final with Inter, either positively or negatively.”

“In any case, I don’t think it is likely that Roma will avail themselves of the option to buy Tavano, the price set by Valencia is too high,” added the striker’s representative.

“We will either try to renew the loan deal, or we will try to find an alternative solution, seeing the player’s desire to remain in Italy.

“He is being followed by many teams, including Napoli, Torino, Siena and Brescia. We will wait and see what Roma decide to do before making any further plans.

“None of those clubs have started an official negotiation, they have only expressed their interest in Tavano’s services,” concluded Guercini.

Not looking good unless they can work out a loan move, other wise i can't see him remaining with us. £7m is very high for a player that has done absolutely nothing this season with Valencia and Roma. Hoping for a loan move, but if he didn't return, it would break my heart either.

He's not worth £5m based on his performance this season...£3 possibly. No wonder Roma don't want to sign him...i wouldn't either for that price tag.

Livorno make Tavano approach

Serie A minnows Livorno are in talks with Valencia over a proposed swoop for Francesco Tavano.

The latter is on the market after struggling to make an impact with the Spaniards since his £7m move last summer.

Tavano arrived in Spain after a sensational season at Empoli, but was loaned to Roma in January after failing to win a first team shirt.

Despite landing in the capital with renewed hopes, the attacker also made a limited impact in Rome which saw the club not take up their option to sign him outright.

Fiorentina and Sampdoria have been associated since, but Livorno chief Aldo Spinelli has been in touch with Valencia.

Spinelli is understood to have offered Valencia sporting director Amedeo Carboni around £3.5m but the Liga outfit are understood to want at least £5m.

I agree, £5m+ does seem a little excessive.
