[#16] Daniele De Rossi:
I think this is a really nice complement to De Rossi. Unfortunately, De Rossi had that incident at the World Cup, but if that didn't occur he may of in fact been listed as one of the top stars of the Azzurri, along side with Canna and Gigi. Daniele should take the armband when Totti steps down and may in fact be the next leader for the Azzurri in a few years. Hopefully he remains healthy and continues to improve!
Quote:
Conti also had a special word for midfielder Daniele De Rossi: "He gave us a glimpse at last year's World Cup. We believe he can emerge as the best midfielder in the world."

I'm struggling to disagree with him. I've always said two things about De Rossi:
- He's a future captain of the Azzurri.
- In a few years he'll be recognised as a top three midfielder in the world.
If he keeps progressing at this current rate he'll be unstoppable. He can do everything, defend, pass, head, score goals.

Nice comments Joel....and he has an Aquilani right behind him learning from him. De Rossi is a great player for us and he always plays with passion. No matter what type of game, no matter what the scoreline is, you can always see the passion when Roma scores in his eyes...

Yeah, I like Aquilani too. He's not as good all round as De Rossi is but he's a bit more creative and technically gifted so they complement each other well in the centre of midfield.

He's a talented, good midfield and all that, but the best? Nope.
Schweinsteiger > De Rossi.
And yet, Schweinsteiger is still far away from being the best midfielder in the World. Some years gotta pass first...

Personally, of all the Italian mids, I think Pirlo would get the nod for best in the world.

Pirlo is more talented but he's one dimentional. Would you ever see Pirlo put in a crunching tackle or thump a header into the back of the net from a corner? As I said before De Rossi can do just about everything to a reasonable standard while Pirlo is limited to passing and set pieces.

His passing, vision and fluidity is unmacthed in Europe, whereas with De Rossi there are similar players available. Pirlo is a more unique talent imo. He proved it this WC.

Of course, Pirlo is the best in the world at what he does. I'm not questioning his ability at all. I would just prefer someone like De Rossi in my midfield because he's a good all rounder. Ideally though you'd have both.
