I admire Conti (a World Cup winning MF) for his comments...truly De Rossi is a player of such a high callibre, i agree he is amongst the best certainl in Italy and Europe, but the world is a target for De Rossi which Joel quite rightly said would take time to develop

Ofcourse Pirlo is also a great MF, but there are certain skills he lacks...which showed during the OCT/Nov time in Serie A...Pirlo has proven (through the WC especially) that he can be amongst the greatest MFs.
De Rossi needs time - and that is what he has

I agree...Pirlo is a phenomenal MF, but does lack in a few areas. He's only human, right. Just as De Rossi lacks in some creative areas where Pirlo excels. Pirlo is great from set plays, whereas De Rossi is usually on the receiving end from set plays. Pirlo isn't the strongest in midfield, where De Rossi is as strong as a bull. Imagine if we could combine Pirlo and De Rossi into ONE...Football Player of the Year...every year!

Hmm, I've come to this thread to late. I have to agree with the people say that De Rossi still has a lot to learn.
I rate Cambiasso higher at this moment in time, and Esteban is just one of many good midfielders in Italy.
De Rossi has potential though, and I hope he does succeed. Just think that "best" is a little bit of a stretch.

Roma Forever - De Rossi
The Italian midfielder wants to remain with the Giallorossi till the end of his career and soon a new deal will be signed.
Daniele De Rossi is one of Roma and Italy's brightest stars, a player sought by many big clubs, but for the young midfielder, there is only one team: Roma.
"If it was for me, I would be ready to sign tomorrow morning for another five or ten years, maybe even till 2030... I can't really see myself in another shirt, and soon there will be a meeting with the club to talk about these things.
"Since I want to remain here for life, and I believe that even Roma wants to hold on to me, there shouldn't be any problems."
De Rossi revealed that Luciano Spalletti often reprimands him...but not for the way he plays!
"Spalletti sometimes reproaches me because in the dressing room I cause trouble, shout, joke with everyone and I never stay put."

He will stay for life, just like Totti. He was born and bred in Rome.

I agree that Cambiasso is better in certain areas. He seems to be much more attack minded and makes a lot of forward runs into the penalty area whereas De Rossi in general prefers to sit. Both are class players though.

Never doubed him for a second...he will remain for life! And one day have a huge role in management when he retires. Between him and Totti, they will wreck havoc on Serie A. Just as they are doing now.
Surpirsed Daniele is hyper in the dressing room, he's so focused on the pitch...must be after a game or during training!

He's played in a much deeper role with Pizarro. Roma don't rely on him for scoring as much. He's been playing very well in helping the central defense close down the forwards.
