Roma Fixtures List - 08/09
Quote:
Clubs await 2008-09 calendar Friday 25 July, 2008
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Serie A fixture list for 2008-09 will be drawn up later today and there will be no seeding measures to prevent epic encounters on the opening day.
After their first few weeks of pre-season training, teams across the peninsula are anxiously awaiting their schedule for the coming season.
And Italy is following the English model whereby the calendar will be completely random, allowing games such as Milan-Inter or Lazio-Roma to fall on the first day of the season.
However, no derby will be allowed to fall on one of the three Wednesday rounds at the request of TV companies and the Osservatorio, who try to prevent problems with law and order at football games.
With Italy facing Argentina in a rugby match on November 15 in Turin, Juventus or Torino will play on the Friday.
There are also complications posed by popular singer Vasco Rossi’s tour of the peninsula.
When Rossi is in Udine, Bologna and Florence, the local teams will play away from home.
The 2008-09 campaign will start on Saturday August 30 and conclude on May 31, 2009.
Serie B’s fixtures will also be revealed today and the teams in the Second Division are still waiting for an agreement over TV rights.
The draw will commence at around 4.30pm.
|
our fate in the scudetto will be known soon

Fixtures: Fiorentina-Juventus first
Friday 25 July, 2008
The fixtures for the 2008-09 season have been announced in Rome and Fiorentina will host bitter rivals Juventus on the opening day.
After weeks of anticipation, Serie A’s clubs finally know who they will be facing on the opening day – the weekend of August 31.
The pick of the fixtures sees a rejuvenated Juventus travel to the Stadio Artemio Franchi for a grudge match with Fiorentina.
Jose Mourinho’s debut proper on the Inter bench is a testing trip to Marassi to play Sampdoria.
Ronaldinho’s first Serie A game will be at San Siro against newly promoted Bologna, while Roma host Napoli in a tense encounter at the Stadio Olimpico.
Serie B play-off winners Lecce visit Torino and Cadetti champions Chievo ease their way in by welcoming Reggina to the Stadio Bentegodi.
The first major derby is Milan-Inter in Week 5, while Juventus and Torino clash in Week 8 and Roma and Lazio cross swords in Week 12.
Fiorentina-Inter is Week 9 and Juventus-Roma is Week 10 – the same day as Milan host Napoli.
Week 13 sees the Derby d’Italia as Inter host Juventus, while Milan travel to Juve in Week 16 and the rematch will be a thrilling end of season encounter.
The close of the campaign is packed with mouth-watering ties, most notably including Milan-Roma in the penultimate week.
The last day sees Juventus play Lazio, Fiorentina host Milan, Roma take on Torino and Inter play home to Atalanta.
The season starts on Saturday August 30 and concludes on May 31, 2009.
Meanwhile, the Presidents of Serie B decided to boycott the ceremony as a protest after the top-flight clubs refused to guarantee the amount of money they would give their Second Division colleagues when TV rights were agreed.
Last year a total of £50m was promised, but there have been no assurances so far this time around.
“There was no agreement and so we won’t be present for the presentation of the new fixtures,” Frosinone chief Maurizio Stirpe explained.
“We have decided to leave the party to Serie A and the next step for the second tier clubs will be not to play.”
Week 1 fixtures:
Atalanta – Siena
Cagliari – Lazio
Catania – Genoa
Chievo – Reggina
Fiorentina – Juventus
Milan – Bologna
Roma – Napoli
Sampdoria – Inter
Torino – Lecce
Udinese – Palermo

we get a killer november.lazio, viola and juve.and then we face the 3 of the top 5 before/after our cl grp stage commitments
we face inter at home and juve away right before our champions league MD3 & MD4 games.it will be tough if we were the away team in cl.while we get fiorentina home after MD5.it will be a tough job to juggle between grp stage 3,4,5 and the tough games we get during those times in the serie a'
but if we manage to get to the ko round we have it easier in terms of the league.

September will be crucial...Roma need to go at least 4-1-0. They need to beat the smaller teams. Roma will be top of the table......after week 1

oh yeah forgot about the smaller teams.but if we dont focus on both we might end up going no where so in terms of domestic affairs we have only november as a rough time but in europe its not good.on top of that there are few more intenationals along the way.

May is going to be tough as well...bc we will likely play relegation bound teams in the final weeks of the season...which is difficult bc they want to survive.

what we do on may will mainly decided on where we stand by then.if we are on top wth a good pts diff to the 2nd place team then we can have less pressure.coz by may its alredy down to the nitty gritty games.

If Totti returns for Italia...then chanced of him getting injured increase significantly. There's 38 Serie A games...at least 6 CL games...and say 5 Coppa Games...+ Italy say 5. That's like 55 games...he won't play that many, but it will take a toll on his body.
