Spalletti agrees five-year extension
Quote:
Spalletti agrees five-year extension
Luciano Spalletti is set to extend his contract with Roma for another five years, while Francesco Tavano has opened his Giallorossi account.
Local newspaper ‘Il Romanista’ maintains that over the next few days he will put pen to paper on a deal worth £1.4m per season – not including bonuses – taking his total time at the Stadio Olimpico to six years.
Achieving impressive results at Udinese and now the Giallorossi, Spalletti has become known as a tactician who bases his system around the characteristics of the players at his disposal, turning an injury crisis into a revolution for the successful 4-2-3-1 formation.
When asked if he saw himself as a successor to Roberto Donadoni on the Italy bench, Spalletti responded in his typically humble style. “For now I’ll keep my Roma.”
De Facto club President Rosella Sensi was also present today for a charity event dedicated to the memory of Luciano Fioravanti, in which over 1,000 people donated blood.
It consisted of a penalty tournament, with Roma’s best spot-kick takers challenging each other from nine yards. David Pizarro won 5-4 over Francesco Totti on the day, despite taking one of his penalties with a blindfold.
“I don’t want to spoil the atmosphere of this wonderful event by talking about contracts,” she commented.
“Suffice to say that Spalletti and I are in complete agreement on everything.”
That afternoon the Giallorossi beat the youth team 5-0 in a test match. Amantino Mancini bagged a hat-trick and Pizarro was again on target, but all eyes were on new arrival Francesco Tavano, who scored his first goal in a Roma jersey.
“This was his first game for the club, but I already know Tavano’s qualities well,” added Sensi. “I am happy with his signing and now all he needs to do is settle in to the squad as quickly as possible.”

There was no doubt he would leave. He has turned this club around and brought confidence to our players. I think he will be a future coach for Italia...but not anytime soon.

There was no doubt that he would sign. He has turned this Roma side from a disaster to Scudetto contenders. Give him some more time and a couple new signings and this club can be extremely dangerous. Good for Luciano! The club has rewarded you for your fantastic work!

He's possibly the best Italian coach currently in Italy.
Ancelotti, Mancini and Prandelli would be the other contenders.

Very classy statements by Spalletti. He's a very respectful and humble man. This is a long term commitment by the club and Spalletti. He shouldn't feel as if his responsibilities have increased. He should continue his work as he has...Roma have showed faith in him and will continue in the future! Grande Spalletti

I agree...phenomenal job...future looks bright at Roma with Spalletti!

Empoli president delighted for Roma coach Spalletti
tribalfooball.com - March 16, 2007
Empoli president Fabrizio Corsi is delighted for his former coach Luciano Spalletti and his success at Roma this season.
Corsi said: "Professionally he has changed since he first started coaching with us. It took him some years, but you could see that he had the potential to become a great coach. All the experiences that he has had, including those negatives, have served him well. Particularly with Roma, where the atmosphere is more complex and the players are all of another level."
