Roma coach Spalletti hails Totti
tribalfooball.com - February 16, 2007

Roma coach Luciano Spalletti has hailed the recent form of his captain Francesco Totti.

He said: "I have never seen a player like him, he gives continuity to every action and can place the ball where no one thinks he could.

"However, all players can improve and I think Totti has the opportunity to do even better than what we have seen so far."

Finally he's getting some recognition about his WC display. Although he wasn't stunning, but a great asset. I above stats are only a few of his hundreds of phenomenal performances. Congrats Totti!

Default Vanigli Hopes To Exchange Shirt With Totti

The Empoli defender caused a serious injury to the Roma captain a year ago, which almost left him out of the Italian national team for the World Cup.

Exactly a year after the infamous incident which involved Richard Vanigli, defender of Empoli, and Francesco Totti of Roma, the two players will be facing each other again this weekend.

However, this time Vanigli hopes that there won't be any such incidents and that by the end of the match, he will be able to exchange his shirt with the Roma captain.

"It's something (the incident) which cannot be forgotten. In any case, he recovered greatly and achieved a lot of satisfactions. I wish him more satisfactions.

"That foul I made affected me in the following weeks, now I hope to exchange my shirt with Totti."

Even after recovering from the dreaded injury, Totti needed more months to find back his best condition, and now he is once again in the same form he was a year ago as he is leading Roma to a great season.

I have a lot of respect for Vanigli now...a class act. Totti should gladly exchange shirts with you.

Vanigli thanks 'great man' Totti
Saturday 17 February, 2007
Richard Vanigli, the man who fractured Francesco Totti’s ankle, comes face to face with the Roma captain again and thanks him for his understanding.

“Francesco could have depicted me as a monster and had all of Italy baying for my blood. Instead, he proved that he is a great man,” said the Empoli defender.

His tackle from behind on the Roma captain during a 1-0 defeat at the Olimpico in February saw Totti’s studs catch in the turf and ankle turn.

The fracture ruled the Azzurri star out for three months, but he just managed to achieve match fitness in time to help Italy to the World Cup triumph in July.

However, the defender reveals more background to those harrowing days when he feared he had destroyed a fellow professional’s World Cup dreams and was in tears at the post-match Press conference.

“Just two weeks after the Olimpico incident, we played against Milan. Gennaro Gattuso came up to me and said: ‘Relax, everyone saw your tackle was involuntary.’ His words took the final bad thoughts out of my head.”

Now, for the first time, Vanigli will come face to face with Totti once again when Roma visit the Stadio Castellani this afternoon.

“After he returned from that injury, I cheered him on in every game like the most fervent Ultra,” he told the ‘Gazzetta dello Sport’.

“I trembled as Totti walked up to the penalty spot in the final seconds against Australia. I remember accompanying the ball into the net with a liberating cry. He could have turned me into a monster and ruined the last years of my career, but he forgave me immediately.”

Vanigli was injured the last time Empoli played against Roma, but he could be in the starting line-up this afternoon.

“What if I’m marking him again? I might use my hands instead of my feet to stop him… Perhaps, after the first challenge, we’ll both burst out laughing. It is a curious situation. Thankfully, when you’re on the pitch you don’t have much time to think. The match day fever reigns supreme.

“If anyone did foul Totti, I’d immediately help him back up and check he was alright. Before the match I’ll ask to swap shirts, even if I realise mine isn’t worth much, I’m only Vanigli. But it’s a request from the heart and Francesco has shown he is a champion of good grace as well as football.”

Default Totti The Best Number Ten - Juninho

Lyon midfielder Juninho has lavished praise on Roma skipper Francesco Totti ahead of Wednesday's clash at the Stadio Olimpico.

Lyon are one of Europe's in-form teams, and take on Roma in their last sixteen Champions League clash.

Having the second leg at le Stade de Gerland is an advantage they have rightfully earned by hammering Real Madrid into second place in the group, but Juninho was wary of a certain Francesco Totti.

While Juninho's role is a lot more defensive, the two are undoubtedly the man who run their teams' shows, and the Brazilian has called the Italian one of the finest - and one of the last remaining- true number 10s ever.

"Totti is a great player, one of the last number 10s remaining in football," Juninho told But.

"The way to play football today has pushed out real number 10s who make the show.

"I have a lot of admiration for him, I think he is the best number 10, but we have to be wary of all the Rome team."

Default Spalletti Denies Disagreement With Totti

AS Roma coach Luciano Spalletti has aborted embryonic rumours regarding an alleged hassle with Captain Francesco Totti and has commented on the current Serie A situation after the weekend action.

AS Roma lost to Empoli on Saturday and it surely was a major blow to the Giallorossi who now have thin hopes in winning the Scudetto and this certainly created a bitter atmosphere amongst the plyers, but has it created rifts in the team?

Captain Francesco Totti, hampered by a mediocre performance, was substituted on the 20th minute of the 2nd half with Vucinic and this may have caused a rift with the Coach according to the Roman grapevine.

However, AS Roma coach Spalletti has explained that there is no talk of a rift. “Against Empoli I substituted Totti because there is very important Champions League match awaiting us. Totti knows me very well and he is a player whom I admire a lot.”

“There’s mutual respect between myself and the Captain and it would be very difficult for anyone to stir up a conflict between me and Francesco.” assessed Spalletti, implying that certain local media reporters often spread all-but-true rumours.

On the current Serie A situation Spalletti was honest. ”We have done what we could do. Perhaps we could have given more effort in matches against minor opponents, but it is just undeniable that Inter Milan are doing an extraordinary season.”

“To become competitive, we need at least 3 other important players to add to the current squad”, ended the Coach, although not dropping any names. Who could – and should – he be thinking of?

That was all down to the media, there's nothing going on between them.

Spalletti loves Totti. When Totti was injured last year, Spalletti wanted Totti to be on the bench coaching alongside him. That says a lot on how he feels about him. Spalletti knows what Totti means to Roma...no way he will risk that relationship.

I have seen that.

The good Italian players, no matter what team they play for, have respect for one another.

Totti is a clown, without a doubt.

And Del Piero is just a nice person, very few like him. Maybe J.Zanetti and Maldini are close though....

I seen this one as well. I think there is also one with Totti/Cassano and Totti/Vieri...

But i agree, all the top stars respect one another...as it should be

Not only that but Del Piero and Totti are actually good friends, something rare in modern day football.
