Totti sets sights on Super Cup Thursday 10 July, 2008
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Roma captain Francesco Totti is ahead of schedule in his recovery from a knee injury and could be ready for the Italian Super Cup.
Er Pupone suffered a serious knee ligament injury during the Giallorossi’s costly draw against Livorno last April.
Despite gloomy early forecasts, Totti has thrown himself into his rehabilitation and could even be fit for the Coppa Italia winners’ August 24 date with champions Inter.
“In all honesty it is too early to say whether Totti will be 100 per cent for the Super Cup but we are working towards that,” physiotherapist Vito Scala said.
“It would mean sending Francesco out on the pitch after four months and 10 days, which would be 20 days ahead of schedule.
“The results of recent tests have been comforting. Totti is back running and will start working with the ball again.
“However, we won’t be risking anything by rushing him back into action before he is ready.”
A Daniele De Rossi penalty was enough to hand Roma a 1-0 victory in last season’s Super Cup.

If he's ready by the Super Cup....best to let him play 10-15 minutes to get his legs back in him...but otherwise, no point rushing him. It will be a long season and we don't need to jeopardize his recovery for a pre-season match.

He still needs to fully recover from this injury and get his form back...so i don't think we will hear anything for at least the next couple months of a return.

And you wonder why Totti's international career is constantly questioned...

That was one very bad decision by a player who was on top of the world...it was a massive mistake and he's finally matured these past few years. Gone are the days of the hot headed Totti...well, almost gone. He still managed to push one of the Roma staff to the ground a couple years ago after a red card...
He's still got the ego...but, when you're the symbol of Rome...it takes a special person to deal with the pressure and act accordingly. He's a Roman...enough said.

Totti: We're just too weak! Saturday 19 July, 2008
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Francesco Totti has warned Roma they must buy at least two more star players to hope of competing for the top three places.
“John Arne Riise and Simone Loria are two excellent reinforcements, but now I expect another two signings of great quality,” he told the Gazzetta dello Sport.
“If we want to compete with Inter, Milan and Juventus, we need at least two more important players. At the moment, we are the fourth strongest side in Serie A.”
While those two have been brought in from Liverpool and Siena respectively, Roma have also sold Amantino Mancini, Ludovic Giuly and Matteo Ferrari.
It is particularly galling to lose Mancini to rivals Inter just a year after Cristian Chivu made the same journey.
“Inter are trying to strengthen their side by weakening ours. They have the capabilities to cherry-pick from other clubs, while it is more difficult for us.”
Transfer gossip has them very close to capturing Brazilian hitman Julio Baptista from Real Madrid, although there are also rumours that Jose Antonio Reyes is on his way from Atletico Madrid.
“I like Baptista and hope he does come to Roma, but we need another reinforcement after that.”
The transfer market could make a sharp turn for the Giallorossi after it was announced this morning that Italpetroli – the Sensi family’s company that owns Roma – have agreed to extend the terms of their loan with UniCredit.
This means more cash is freed up in the short-term to spend on new players.
“We will try to repeat our past success and aim for something more important than the Coppa Italia,” said the captain.
“The fact the Champions League Final will be played in Rome is an event that for my generation won’t return again. It is our objective, even more so than the Scudetto.”
The last time this match was hosted by the Italian capital was in 1984, when Liverpool and Bruce Grobbelaar’s ‘spaghetti legs’ saw off the Giallorossi in a shoot-out.
“I was eight years old. I watched it on television with my whole family. I remember Roberto Pruzzo’s goal and the silence during the penalties. Rome was mute.”

damn he is right, if we manged to secure baptista it will at least take us a "small baby" step up, but baby steps arent enough for a giant stride in our club.
reyes...he went to spain after being home sick but i rate him good but can he resist another spell away from home?
so we have cash, will we make a "united esque" transfer where no one knows of it and bang!! we got a player.

Totti reiterated exactly what i said the other day...even with Baptista, it's still not enough.
