Francesco Totti has praised teammate Mirko Vucinic and issued a warning to leaders Inter.

Er Pupone has been sidelined since late October when he picked up an ankle injury against Sporting Lisbon.

The talismanic forward has seen his colleagues thrive in his absence and insists that they are ready to push Inter all the way this time around.

“I am proud of the group as we are doing well, but we are hoping to go even further,” Totti stated at the presentation of his book ‘My life, my goals’.

“Inter will certainly have a harder time than they did last time because there isn’t the gulf that there was last year,” the former Azzurri star continued.

“There are new players, we are a different group and we are more experienced.”

Vucinic has stepped in to fill the gap Totti left and has impressed, but many critics feel that the two men couldn’t play together.

“Mirko is a great striker and I am happy with him,” Totti stated.

“The talk of a duel with him that I read in the newspapers is complete fabrication as we can play together and we want to.”

While it remains to be seen whether Totti will use a prototype boot to allow him to play against Cagliari on Wednesday, the 31-year-old is hoping for a successful evening on two fronts.

“Roma, with or without Totti, are always challengers and on Wednesday we want to beat Cagliari and if Lazio could upset Inter and do us a favour…” he concluded.

Totti reveals nightmare draw Friday 7 December, 2007

Francesco Totti is already looking ahead to the last 16 of the Champions League and there is only one draw he wants to avoid.

Roma made certain of their place in the knockout stages with an emphatic 4-1 win over Dynamo Kiev

However, the Giallorossi can only finish second in Group F even if they upset Manchester United in their final fixture and could be facing a tough test in the next round.

“To win the Champions League you have to meet almost everyone,” Totti said on Sky Sport Italia.

“We finished second so we absolutely have to meet a big side, someone like Chelsea, Barcelona or Real Madrid. I would only hope to avoid Barça.

“In the squad we have players who have played at an international level. We have a strong unit and we can scare some people if we carry on down this road.

“The boss is able to change players and give everyone a game. All the players and staff believe in our cause.”

Er Pupone shone in a duo with Mirko Vucinic against Cagliari and exploded the myth that the two are mutually incompatible.

“I think that two players who know how to play the game can play together in any role because the Coach has the option to put them where he wants. Mirko and I have proven that we can play together.”

for the last 16 i hope we dont meet any big guns but once we survived the last 16, i wont mind any opponent since the stakes are different and its whole new level

Totti reveals ideal partner Monday 10 December, 2007

Roma idol Francesco Totti has given the latest on his injured foot and chosen his dream strike partner.

The Giallorossi captain has returned to action, but has still not fully recovered from a series of injuries.

“It’s a bit of a strange time for me,” Totti explained to Sky Sport Italia.

“Naturally it’s horrible for a player to be out injured as nobody wants to be out of the team, especially when the side is doing so well.

“Between the ages of 16 and 29, I never had any serious injuries, but between 30 and 31 I have had two – the first was very serious and I needed an ankle operation and the second was just a blow to the foot

“I need time to heal, but I’ll need to grit my teeth and get on with it.”

Despite the weekend’s disappointing draw with Livorno that allowed Inter to pull five points clear, Totti is delighted with his teammates’ efforts and has big ambitions.

“The squad is very strong and can compete with the strongest sides in Europe, I’m hoping that we get to the Champions League Final next year and beat Liverpool on penalties at the Stadio Olimpico.

“The January transfer window? I would like two or three more players, but that’s just for me,” Totti admitted.

“If I could choose I’d pick Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Thierry Henry. But the striker I’d most like to play alongside is Ronaldo, even if I know that is almost impossible as I have another three or four years on my contract.

“Antonio Cassano? I speak almost the same language as Cassano, in footballing terms. I have always got on well with him. He is a player with so much quality. Sooner or later he will show his true value.”

of course he meant the one wth milan.striker to striker=partner.c.ronaldo =winger=supplier to forwards wch i guess wont be some of partner for a forward.

but what cought my eye was even he is expecting the club to bring in some more reinforcements.now thats some big signal that shows we are in need of some more depth from il capitano himself.

3-4 players does seem a bit much though.We do need 1 or 2 .A real back up to Tonetto and another Center back.

Casetti should be starting with his sensational form but he'll be out for a month I believe with an injury.

a defense addition plus another striker would be great.

Totti to renew Roma vows Wednesday 2 January, 2008

Whispers in Italy are suggesting that Roma will soon extend the contract of captain Francesco Totti.

The former Italian international is presently committed to the Giallorossi until June 2010, but reports today suggest that he’ll renew that agreement for a further two more years.

Totti has been a one-club man since he graduated through his beloved club’s youth system as a boy and he made his debut for the first-team as a 16-year-old.

Born and bred in the capital, Totti has always resisted the temptation to leave the outfit after Milan and Real Madrid had offers rejected for him.

The No 10, born in September 1976, is now likely to end his career with the Giallorossi before perhaps being given some sort of role at the club.

Totti plans European glory Tuesday 8 January, 2008

Roma captain Francesco Totti isn’t daunted by facing Real Madrid in the Champions League and is already planning next year’s tournament.

Giallorossi fans breathed a collective gasp when their side were sent to the Bernabeu to face the conquerors of city rivals Lazio.

While Spanish champions Real represent a stiff test for the Eternal City outfit, Totti seems far from intimidated.

“I’m happy that we are facing them,” Er Pupone insisted in an interview with France Football.

“I have good memories of playing against Real, like the victory at the Bernabeu in 2002. They are a very strong side, but I’m sure that we will show our ability.

“We have a side of champions and we have the right mentality and concentration, but we need to be nearly perfect to win games like this and take trophies.”

While Totti is clearly focused on this season’s competition, he can’t help but look forward to next year when the final will be held at his beloved Stadio Olimpico.

“When I heard that the Olimpico was going to host the Final next year I immediately said that I wanted to be in it,” he explained.

“I want it to be Roma against Liverpool so that we could get revenge for 1984 when we lost on penalties.

“You can say that it’s not certain, but it’s destiny. You wait and see,” he forecast confidently.
