That Roma/Man U match had so much hype. Can't believe it ended like it did. But at least Roma know that they literally DESTROYED Man U in Rome. But then United KILLED us away.

Roma medic Paolo Mariani has explained why Francesco Totti chose not to remove the metal plate from his ankle.

The Italian international had the plate inserted back in February 2006 when he fractured his ankle and it was meant to be removed over the summer.

However, as he managed to finish as Serie A top scorer and the new surgery would require a two-month stop, it will be left in place.

“Totti decided not to remove the plate and that will not cause any problems for next season,” assured Professor Mariani, who performed the original operation.

“Francesco said ‘I scored 30 goals with the plate, so I don’t see why I should stop to have it removed.’

“Keeping it in place over the short term does not create complications, but we certainly have to be prudent.”

The medic had originally advised Totti to have the metal plaque removed, as it could possibly change the positioning of the bone and tendons in the area, but he was more reassuring after the latest visit.

“There is no reason why he should not have it removed several years down the line. There are cases like this.”

Professor Mariani also performed the medical on new Roma signing Ahmed Apimah Barusso, who has arrived from Serie B revelations Rimini.

“After the first orthopaedic examination, he is a healthy athlete. Roma asked me to verify his condition. As for the athletic and muscular situation, that was looked at by other specialists and I heard there was a positive response.

“There were concerns that the fracture of the tibia and fibula had also created lesions in the tendons, but all doubts on this matter were swept away by the tests.”
