Arrow MD3: Roma - Inter

I'm a little worried about the Inter game wednesday...Inter are coming off a loss in C.L and a draw this past weekend....Mancini's job is on the line, and Inter will be looking for the 3 points at any cost...In a sense it's good to play the difficult games early in the season...but not in this case where Inter is looking to bounce back...i hope for a 1-1 draw.

Any news when Vucinic will be back?

Roma are the favourites in this game, I don't care what any one says. Inter have motivation, but so does Roma...more so in my opinion.

Quote:
Serie A Week 3 - 20/9/06 (19.30 UK)

Roma - Inter
Stadio Olimpico

The lights are on at the Olimpico and under the spotlight are an ambitious Roma side facing champions Inter in the big match of Week 3. With Milan still suffering with their points handicap, the two teams are the most valid candidates to win Serie A. Francesco Totti and Co have been waiting for this moment for some time and will give their all in an effort to rip the Scudetto shield from the Nerazzurri shirt.

This is the second time that the two teams have met each other this year. Roma and Inter actually played in the Italian Super Cup before the start of the Campionato, with the Nerazzurri sensationally winning 4-3 after being three goals down. Last year’s Serie A clash ended 1-1. Out of all the matches at the Olimpico between the two sides, Roma have won 31 times while Internazionale 24. There have been 20 draws.

The Giallorossi already seem to be at their best after having already won their opening two games which has seen them climb to the top of the table. Coach Luciano Spalletti has created an excellent harmony in the dressing room which is confirmed by the results.

David Pizarro will have a lot to prove after the Chilean playmaker joined Roma this summer following his controversial Inter exit and he’s likely to play after scoring twice in his last two games. Spalletti may have to do without Vincenzo Montella due to a muscle strain. Captain Totti may play as the only striker assisted by Amantino Mancini and Rodrigo Taddei.

It will also be a special match for Inter boss Roberto Mancini, Dejan Stankovic and Hernan Crespo – who have all played for Lazio and will feel the atmosphere of the derby.

Mancini’s side haven’t had a brilliant start to the season. The Nerazzurri will go into the tie following a 1-0 defeat at Sporting Lisbon and a draw against Sampdoria, which really disappointed owner Massimo Moratti. Inter now have to show if they are really up to the Scudetto challenge.

Mancini still has numerous selection doubts though. He has to decide who is going to get the gloves between Francesco Toldo and Julio Cesar. In defence Fabio Grosso is set to start as a left-back while Walter Samuel, who has a Giallorosso past, may find a place next to Marco Materazzi.

Luis Figo will probably make his return on the right wing and Olivier Dacourt, who left the capital outfit for the Milanese in August, should take the place of the injured Esteban Cambiasso next to Patrick Vieira. In attack, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Crespo should once again be the starting tandem – with an upset Adriano sitting on the bench eagerly waiting for his moment.

Man on fire: Francesco Totti (Roma) – This Roma legend becomes inspired when he sees Black and Blue. His stunning goal last season stunned both Toldo and the fans, let’s see what ‘Er Pupone’ has up his sleeve this time…

Last season: Roma 1-1 Inter

Form guide: Roma (W W - - -) Inter (W D - - -)

Roma (probable): Doni; Panucci, Mexes, Ferrari, Chivu; Pizarro, Perrotta, De Rossi, Mancini, Taddei; Totti

Inter (probable): Toldo; J.Zanetti, Samuel, Materazzi, Grosso; Vieira, Dacourt, Stankovic, Figo; Ibrahimovic, Crespo

Hmmm, I don't think you will shut us out. Win maybe, but I think we will score.

Then I think 2-1 perhaps, with Taddei scoring one of the goals for Roma, and one of the new Inter boys scoring for the Nerazurri.
I think we might slip a few balls past the midfield quite effectively.

Inter tie not decisive, says Spalletti
Tuesday 19 September, 2006
Roma boss Luciano Spalletti has played down the importance of the match against Inter. “It won’t decide the Scudetto,” he stated.

The two teams will meet at the Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday, with the Giallorossi eager to confirm their 100 per cent record.

“This clash will not be decisive for the title,” stated Spalletti during a Press conference at their Trigoria training base.

“There are too many games left before the end of the season. After all, we have only just started the campaign.”

While the capital outfit have set the pace, Inter have struggled following a loss at Sporting Lisbon and a draw with Sampdoria.

“Our start was better than Inter’s, but they are sure to be very angry after their recent disappointments,” added the Coach.

“That fact does not favour us at all. As a result, I’m sure that they will use that anger against us in the tie.

“It would be important for us to win, it would prove that we are on the same level, although I still think they have something more than us.

“Tomorrow’s match can end with any result, they want to react to their difficult phase and we want to show that we deserve to be at the top,” continued Spalletti.

“During the Super Cup Final in August [lost 4-3] we played an excellent game for an hour, then we were outclassed by Inter, but Roma have definitely improved since that match.”

Spalletti’s contract with Roma expires in June 2007, but chief executive Rosella Sensi claimed that he will remain on the club’s bench for some time to come.

“I don’t want to talk about my contract, we will discuss it at the end of the season, as we have always done,” commented the Giallorossi boss.

“I am pleased to hear that the club is satisfied with my work, but I am also aware that things can change very quickly in this job.

“Everyone is talking about the contract only because we won two matches, nobody seemed to remember it before,” added the former Udinese Coach.

“Do I envy Roberto Mancini for something? I am glad to be at Roma, the only thing I envy is his hair,” concluded the bald Spalletti.

Its really hard to say what will happen. I imagine that Samuel will start with Matrix in the middle.

Middle of the pitch is a problem, but Dacourt played well. However without Cambiasso, things get difficult.

Dacourt played well?... did you not see how many giveaway he had against Samp. All thoses midfield passes where he passed to the opposing team. He had one good shot that just rasied the bar.....and a couple tackles! He stinks! lol

As I saw the game, I did not see all the "giveaways" that you imagined seeing.

As a DM, his job is too win the ball. Passes and shooting are secondary. The fact that he got one off is good enough for me.

Pleasant surprise to be honest.
