Arrow CL: Roma - Valencia

Quote:
Edu fears Totti
Monday 25 September, 2006
Valenica midfielder Edu believes that Francesco Totti is the man to watch out for when they face Roma in the Champions League this week.

The Spanish side are unbeaten in La Liga and will face the Giallorossi at the Mestalla Stadium in a game that will go a long way to deciding who tops Group D.

“They are a strong side and are winning many games, but the Champions League is a totally different tournament,” said the former Arsenal midfielder.

“We will play in our stadium and I am sure that will be to our advantage.

“Totti is the star of the Roma side and the man we must fear the most – he is the pivot supporting the entire team.

“He is a top quality player and we will have to control him carefully, but I am confident that we can limit his decisiveness if our defence plays well.”

Meanwhile, Roma Coach Luciano Spalletti has released the list of players who will travel to Spain.

Philippe Mexes is included, but Amantino Mancini, Rodrigo Taddei, Mirko Vucinic and Gilberto Martinez are all injured and will stay in Rome.

Valencia and Roma last met in 2003 in the Champions League second group stage, with Totti the only survivor from the side.

The match is scheduled to start at 20:45 local time and will be officiated by Herbert Fandel from Germany.

well hope tey ear gallorossi not just Il Capitano...but then agin hope we can score in the match.though still a bit far from his best but his nearing there.our defense needs to be carefull wth valencia's "tap-up" master morientes.

hoping for a solid 2-0/1-0 also will do8)

I think a draw would be good enough to be honest. Roma should play tight, and surprise them.

yep a draw will favour both teams as the 1st game resulted in a win.we need to secure a place in 2nd round asap so that in the later games we can be on a slight relaxed approach.first 3 group games will play a major role so far 1 down n 2 to go.wth serie a' major games looming its better to be safe earlier in cl.

A draw would be ideal as both teams do not want to lose any points. However, in the later stages teams will compete at a much higher level and with our recent injuries and future injuries we won't be able to have a relaxed approach what so ever. I see De Rossi having another fantastic game...i love his excitement after we score...truely devoted!

Valencia-Roma should be a cracker; tie of the round by some margin in my book.

exactly the reason why we need to win this game n the next, to ensure a safe passage within 3 games.

You can rarely afford to lose any games in CL. Every game is a must win b/c if you lose (like Inter) puts more pressure on your team for the next game. Sometimes that pressure effects the team in a negative way. Hoping for a 1-0 win...but would be thankful for a point. A lose would not be the end of the world, however it depends on Shakhter/Olympiacos game. A tie would be fantastic there!

Yes...I am predicting a 2-1 win for us, with a good prediction for Il Capitano, De Rossi and Tonetto

i agree uefa is good for updates, but sometimes they dont provide full facts of events. I like to go to http://www.gazzetta.it/Calcio/ just click the "tempo reale" its in italian, but provides much better analysis. forza roma!
