Arrow UEFA Cup:Roma v Middlesbrough(first and second leg)

Quote:
Roma duo miss ‘Boro trip Monday 6 March, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Roma will be without both goalkeeper Alexander Doni and Vincenzo Montella for this week’s UEFA Cup clash with Middlesbrough.

The shot-stopper, who usually sits on the bench in Europe, won’t travel to England at all after sustaining a shoulder problem.

The Brazilian picked up the injury during the 1-1 draw with Inter last night and underwent a series of tests at Villa Stuart on Monday.

The custodian, who has performed relatively well in his debut Italian campaign, is also a major doubt for the trip to Ascoli at the weekend.

Under-21 international goalkeeper Gianluca Curci will be handed the gloves against the Premiership outfit.

Meanwhile, Montella has been told to completely rest for the next 10 days after a recurrence of his back problem.

The veteran striker was set to feature against Inter before pulling out of the game just a few hours ahead of kick-off.

The former Sampdoria player was seen by a specialist in Monaco on Monday who will further examine the Italian in the middle of next week.

I hope Roma can keep up their fine form in this tournament. If they play like they did against Inter, they should win this.

They are exponentially better than Boro in all departments. But if Boro play to their potential they can give the tie some excitement.

Viduka and Yakubu would both be good enough for Roma and the central midfield is similar to Roma's with it's youth.

Mancini and Taddei v Downing and Morrison should be interesting. The problem is that Boro are much weaker at fullback which could be the key area.

All is not bad, its only 1-0. But you have to win, and get a clean sheet in Rome.

Well, Roma must win by more than one goal, if Boro score. I just can't imagine Boro doing well in Stadia Olympico??

Oh well. We'll soon find out, I hope they prevail. I like to see Roma go all the way, they are a decent team.

Fucking robbed, it may only be 1-0 Jager but that's what people said about LIverpool in Benfica and look what happened there...and it's the principle of the thing. Hasselbaink practically came out and admitted he dived the stupid, talentless twat.

For sure, I agree. Losing 1-0 in the away leg is usually a very bad start. However Roma will be formidable at home. They have to crack open Boro for a few.

They are fully capable of doing it.

Viduka? Please. He isn't even good enough for Empoli.
C'mon Roma, you'll take 'em to pieces at the Olimpico.
