Well it's derby time and i've never been so negative going into one, we are playing abysmally, one of our best players has been thrown from the team and there seems to be no light in this horrible tunnel of loss.
Is there any hope for our beloved Roma, they say form goes out the window in these games but if you look at the last 2 derby games from Roma there has been no real passion. Lazio are performing well for such a rubbish team, and they have passion and unity.
what can should expect and dare we hope for?

Woohoo! I can't wait for this one. I really don't know what to expect. I still remember that idiot DiCanio and his foolish nazi salute when he scored. Then they played the rematch which was crap. I'm hoping Totti gets up for this, as I'm sure he will want to get DiCanio back.

Roma - Lazio

Stadio Olimpico

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Rome derby is one of the world’s biggest rivalries and this match is set to be as hotly fought as ever. Both clubs have undergone huge changes recently and fans from the respective halves of the capital will see this game as the real test for their new look teams.

Inevitably the face-off between the two Roman icons Francesco Totti and Paolo Di Canio will draw most attention, but this year the differences between the two sides are much bigger. While the new look Roma still have a host of international stars, Lazio’s blend of youth and experience sees them go into this encounter as reluctant favourites. The Biancocelesti have won all four games at the Stadio Olimpico in 2005-06 and, even though they are technically the away side for this match, they will be hoping to continue that run.

Roma though have lost two of the three they have played in Rome and now find themselves deep into the bottom half the table. Even at this early stage of their campaign, Coach Luciano Spalletti must be starting to feel the pressure, especially as derby games can often prove to be the breaking point for an underachieving tactician.

Spalletti will once again be without the injured Leandro Cufre for this crucial tie as well as Alberto Aquilani. Lazio’s injury problems are more serious with Roberto Baronio, Matteo Sereni, Gaby Mudingayi and Felice Piccolo all missing. However, the influential Aprecido Cesar should finally be fit enough to return after his lengthy recovery.

But whoever plays, the Derby della Capitale is as entertaining for the emotional and often bizarre occurrences going on off the field as it is for the actual football, guaranteeing one of the most spectacular events in the calcio calendar.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Roma (probable): Curci; Panucci, Kuffour, Chivu, Bovo; De Rossi, Perrotta; Mancini, Totti, Taddei; Nonda

Lazio (probable): Peruzzi; Oddo, Siviglia, Cribari, Zauri; Behrami, Dabo, Liverani, Cesar; Di Canio, Rocchi

This game is more important to Roma, who have had their fans turn on them already and if they don't win they will be slipping close to the lower half of the league.

Going out on a limb, and I think Lazio will win this by two goals. I have seen nothing from the Roma side that will prove me otherwise. Last year they could score, but this year has been different.

seriously? Better be something decent, actually as long as the money is decent i'm not too fussed what it is! it's pronouced darby in english english, but in italian it's said more like derby. Think it's the same with unenglish english.

Di Canio ignores Montella jibes

Quote:
Di Canio ignores Montella jibes Friday 21 October, 2005

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Vincenzo Montella dubbed Paolo Di Canio “someone who provokes,” but the Lazio star isn’t rising to the bait and thanked him for the compliment.

“I really don’t find anything wrong in the statements he made,” insisted the Biancocelesti hero. “If he’s trying to butter me up with compliments, then it won’t work, but calling me a provoker isn’t too damaging. I have always been in favour of pre-derby pinching.”

This is squaring up to be a particularly bitter Derby della Capitale and Lazio are the favourites after hitting fine form, whereas Roma are struggling to stay afloat. Nonetheless, Montella claimed their rivals were “weaker” than his side.

“Montella merely suggested Roma should always challenge for the top four. I am thinking only of the Lazio fans, who are walking down the streets of Rome with a different look in their eyes. These are positive expressions that have changed from a few weeks ago. I’m also focusing on my team and making this a great performance all round.”

Di Canio grew up in the stands of the Stadio Olimpico and has always been close to the controversial Biancocelesti Ultra.

“I told the new arrivals to this club that if they win the derby, and even if they never play another game for Lazio, they will remain in the history books,” continued the former West Ham star. “It’s what happened last season and it can be the case again.”

Di Canio was on target in that 3-1 victory that ended a five-year drought for the blue and white side of the city. He has also clashed with his team-mates, especially when it comes to taking penalties.

“I respect all the hierarchy within the club, but if there’s a spot kick, then I’m taking it!” laughed the veteran. “Massimo Oddo knows the situation and agrees with me.”

The derby battles have been vicious occasions, but the rivalry was set aside while Francesco Totti awaits the imminent birth of his first son.

“I wish him the very best because I know it’s the best thing that can happen to a family. I am a father and know how wonderful this moment can be.”
