Might? I'd say probably. They have a better squad than Dallas for sure and possibly San Jose and Chivas as well. I think they have a legitimate shot at MLS Cup.

RSL is in good shape I'd say playoffs are not that far out of the imagination.

Why is everyone so down on Expansion teams? This is not the NBA, this is MLS. Look at what Chicago did in 1998 as an Expansion team. I see RSL easily making the play-offs and unless Chivas USA is good, making it to MLS Cup. Just look at the west. They lost their best team KC, best player Landon Donovan, LA has gotten weaker, FC Dallas sucks, Colorado has improved slightly. I think the West is RSL's to take. They go in as my favorites to win the west at the moment.

Thats my point exactly I don't know why people are saying that RSL cant make the playoffs. With Pope and Mathis you have a strong foundation right there.

I don't think there is any doubt there roster is better than FC Dallas. I'd also argue it's better than Los Angeles (especially if Ruiz leaves) and San Jose, probably Colorado as well, judgement is out on Chivas. If I had to bet on who would make the playoffs RSL would easily make the list.

yea don't see how RSL can't make the playoffs out west. Best two teams in the east now, so.

Real picked a victory in Portugal the other day. I pasted this from the MLS site. Link to full page at bottom.
Real blank Beira Mar: Real Salt Lake improved their preseason record to 5-1-1 by shutting out Portuguese second division club Beira Mar Algarve 4-0 on Tuesday in the first game of RSL's trip to Portugal. Forward Jamie Watson led the way for Salt Lake with two goals and an assist, while midfielders Kevin Novak and Luke Kreamalmeyer provided a goal apiece.
"Overall, the game went very well and several of our young players saw 90 minutes of action," said RSL head coach John Ellinger. "Beira Mar Algarve is a very talented team with a lot of youth, and our guys played extremely well as a cohesive unit, allowing us to essentially dominate the game."
Watson opened the scoring with a 16th-minute finish after a through ball into the box from Evan Whitfield. Three minutes later the advantage was extended when Novak put away a cross from defender Cameron Knowles. Whitfield and Watson connected for the third goal as well in the 65th minute, while Kreamalmeyer continued his fine preseason form by chipping the goalkeeper from outside the 18-yard box to complete the rout.
On Tuesday, Real Salt Lake will play Recreativa Huelva, who currently sit No. 2 in the Spanish second division.
