Wanted to put this in the sticky even though it's on main thread. Maybe we could post roster info from Friday in the stickies.

"[Clint Mathis] has made it clear that he would like to play in MLS."
-- Steve Pastorino, GM of Real Salt Lake, who is interested in signing
Mathis, currently at Hannover 96 of the German Bundesliga but unable to
break into the lineup. (Salt Lake Tribune)

Real Pick Up Stewart From Chivas 26/11/04

Club Deportivo Chivas USA on Tuesday traded its tenth pick in the Major League Soccer 2005 Expansion Draft, defender Jeff Stewart, to fellow expansion team Real Salt Lake in exchange for one of Salt Lake's Youth International slots.

The transaction increases Chivas USA's number of Youth International slots from five to six, thus allowing up to ten non-U.S. resident players (six Youth and four Senior Internationals) to form part of Head Coach Thomas Rongen's roster for the 2005 season.

"This trade is good for both teams," said Rongen. "Salt Lake receive another defender, and we get a chance to acquire another Youth International player in line with the philosophy and vision of our club."

The 24-year-old Stewart played 27 matches for the Colorado Rapids during his first two seasons in MLS (2002 and 2003) before being sidelined by a knee injury for the entirety of the 2004 season.

Earlier this month, Major League Soccer increased the per-team allotment of Senior International players from three to four, and replaced the league-wide numeric limit on Youth International players with per-team limits of five tradable slots for expansion teams during their first two years, and three for the league's ten other teams.

1. WHAT THEY'RE SAYING

"He could start for us and be a stalwart on defense. ... We felt that we
could either take a conservative route in the draft and draft players who
are very well known, or you could take some chances on some guys who have great potential."
-- Real Salt Lake GM Steve Pastorino, referring to former Colorado defender Jeff Stewart, 24. CD Chivas USA took Stewart in the expansion draft, then traded him to Real Salt Lake for an additional youth international spot, giving Chivas USA six youth international spots in addition to its four senior foreign slots. You don't think all ten of those slots will go to Mexican born players do you?

Jason Kreis had a chat on MLSnet.com today.
He said that RSL is real close to signing a star forward whom "he had a great deal of respect for".

Wonder who?
