Default One year after Capellos "laughable" exit

Its one year since Capello won La Liga with Madrid, but got fired.

The whole world laughed and 95 % of Talksoccer members laughed about that stupid decision. How can you fire a man that won the league ?

Many Madrid supporters were agreed with 'rest of the world' but I really liked Calderon and Pedjas plan, and decided to defend the sack of Don Fabio.

Yes, Capello ended up with equal points as Barca, but won because of the 2-0 vicotry at Bernabeu earlier in the season. Madrid had lost many matches, but Barca totally failed in the end and together with all the impressing spirit from Capellos men, all in all we can use the sentence ' a bit lucky' too.

The plan was to hire Capello and bring back the teamspirit. He was NEVER a long-time plan (something he knewed himself) and he actually won the league in his first season, before he actually should. But when the Madrid fans had got their title and could celebrate...it was time to bring in a new, young and talented manager -that played the way Real Madrid wanted to play-. Offensive and entertaining football with more stable results and more young players in the squad/lineup.

Madrid fired Capello, hired Schuster and he bought in names like Pepe, Sneijder, Saviola, Metzelder, Drenthe, Robben and Heinze. He started to develop Fabio Capellos Real Madrid till the way the clubs supporters and board wanted.

When all the 'Madrid haters' waited on the Real fiasco, Schuster did the job as planned and from day one till the last match of the season...Real Madrid dominated La Liga - with better offensive and defensive power than under Capello, and with younger blood.

No hard feelings to Fabio Capello. He did many great things for Real Madrid, and the timing were perfect for Schuster to take over the ship. Ramon Calderon "The twat for many" have now given two titles to Real Madrid in his two years in the club. And the squad is very exciting with coming stars like Fernando Gago, Gonzalo Higuain, Ezegiel Garay, Pepe, Robben, Robinho, Casillas, Wesley Sneijder, Royston Drenthe, Marcelo, etc..

Conclusion: They made the right decision.

I understood the Madrid decision to sack Capello as it's happened before in Spain, even with Barca and Van Gaal, but I honestly wouldn't have made that decision myself. I would have kept Capello for at least another season and keep things like that.

I still think Calderon is a moron with his transfer tactics and stupid comment bloopers, which show him to be a moron but all you need to say to counter my argument is "2 seasons, 2 league titles" and that's where I fall short. I can't counter that although I feel the guy has ridden his luck slightly and I feel he will slip up someday day soon and won't be able to stop it.

You won the title with ease this season but I'm still not sure about the signings. Pepe has been good, Heinze has been ok, Sneijder good, Robben injured but then good, but the quad cost 105 million so you might have expected better. Madrid's best players this season weren't the new signings but the old signings putting in double effort I feel. The signings last season were probably better.

Who knows if it worked out for the best.

That's my point, who knows if you are any better off now as you have achieved what you did under Capello, winning the league. Yes the football is slightly better but at the start of last season Madrid would have gladly traded nice football for trophy's.

I didn't agree with the Capello sacking but i understood that he never really got a tight grip on La Liga. As someone mentioned, they ended up level in points with Barcelona. So they wanted to bring someone in to have that tight grip.

I didn't think they'd be able to defend their title but they did.

We all know that Capello sucked in CL (something the Juve supporters told us before he entered) He has one title, right? In '94 for Milan against Barsa..?

He had not been able to develop his defensive style with Madrid either, and guys, remember that Schuster was VERY unlucky in February against Roma....when it comes to injures. 7 of our regular players were out in those matches while several had recovered from injures.

Yes, who knows if Capello had continued? Noone can give us that answer, but if we see around the whole situation, Schuster has been a win-win for Madrid. And its a good feeling that Madrid actually did the right move and got much better - when the world laughed about the sack of Don Fabio.

Who knows maybe the Schuster scenario is something similar to Grant at Chelsea.

I don't take away your achievement this season btw, you were the best team in La Liga by quite a distance. To say that sacking Capello was the best is abit disrespectful (and btw I dislike Capello after he ditched us) as this season you have only matched his season in charge (1 trophy, La Liga), you could argue that Madrid have faced weaker opposition aswell, but that isn't for this thread. Again bravo, I wish my team could win the scudetto again.

Well, Chelsea/Grant and Madrids Capello-Schuster is IMO two different stories. Schuster took over with an offensive and entertaining modul, and succeed heavely. Capello were just LUCKY with his defensive and 'boring' style...and he was never a long-term man either, something he knew himself. Grant took over as an short-time solution in the middle of a season, and failed in the end.

We can always be 'wise after the event' but so far so good.
