Mallorca 1-1 Real Madrid
Saturday, April 5, 2008, 22:00 CET
Mallorca have quite a good record over Madrid over the last few seasons. They're one of my only hopes in the last 8 games for Madrid to slip up
Mallorca have won 3 of their last 4 including a 7-1 win over Recre and a 3-0 win against Valencia at the Mestalla.
Madrid have been poor on the road lately so a hope that Mallorca could beat them.

Didn't Mallorca beat Madrid at home as well in the Cup ?
If Madrid can sustain Arango, then half the job is done, because Guiza won't get any quality service.
This match could swing either way, but I predict a draw.

Kahn was right. A 1-1 draw. Robben assisted Sneijder for the first and Borja curled one in to equalise.
The commentator said that it was 1 point gained rather than 2 lost considering the difficulty of the game. Guiza missed 2 golden opportunities and they had a goal wrongly disallowed so you could say that Madrid were lucky.

After this draw, Villareal can move closer to Madrid if they win tonight. They'll be just 4 pts away.
Madrid have been imploding over the last few weeks, ever since horse face Ruud got injured.

The match went both ways until Ramos were sent off. Then Mallorca were the best team and had a couple of big chances. They were also unlucky since thet should have got a penalty and maybe a goal that the referee not approved.
But Its not just Van Nistelrooy who's out. Pepe, Robinho and Diarra did not start either.
One point is OK in Mallorca. Madrid were good in the defence and could've won with 11 men. But they miss Van Nistelrooy and Robinho.
Btw, Robben were great together with Gago and the defence.

The decision to disallow that goal was truly shocking, Heinze cleared the ball in a very awkward way and he clashed with Arango, Arango didn't provoke it. Then Navarro scored, but the ref called for a foul on Heinze..
Guiza should have put the ball in the back of the net more than once, awful finishing for someone who is on the top 5 of the pitchichi.

Perhaps I didn't make myself clear, I meant that period of the time when Ruud got injured and not that he was the only player injured.

Robben's assist was really good, the way he took all the defenders out of the way was awesome.
When Robinho and Ruud return, who will get benched ? Raul ?
I can't see Schuster playing without his 2 holding midfielders plus Guti.

Ramos second yellow were not yellow. However, he deserved the red card because he continued his aggresiv play in that match. He destroyed the chance of taking three points in the 'vacation island'
When Robinho and Van Nistelrooy is back, Schuster should IMO play this:
Robben - Sneijder- Gago - Robinho
Van Nistelrooy - Raul
* Diarra and Guti as backup

Hmm, for some reason I don't think Schuster is going to bench Guti. IMO he's the best passer of the ball you have in your team and he does a lot more defensive work than Sneijder.
I don't rate Gago tbh, he is too static to be your only DM. I'd feel more secure with Diarra

Well, If you had asked me three weeks ago I had prefer Diarra over Gago. But Fernando Gago is very good these days and you can see a positive developing.
Madrid is an attacking team and they don't need too many defensive midfielders. One is enough. Guti is perhaps one of the best midfielders and passers in Europe (WHEN he has the day) Unfortunately, but Guti is an on/off player and IMO should be a supersub. He is NOT good enough to defence and I prefer Sneijder over him anyday. I don't like his attitude either.
But I agree. I don't think Schuster will bench Guti either. It looks like either Robben or Robinho has to start on the bench. That's scary since both of them are one of the worlds best wingers/players.
But Madrid miss Van Nistelrooy a lot. Higuain is far, far way from being a scorer machine and Raul can't do the job alone all the time.
