Marca are claiming that new Tottenham boss Juande Ramos has demanded the signing of Julio Baptista in the winter transfer window.
Baptista - a former Sevilla man, though he left the Sanchez Pizjuan the summer Juande Ramos took charge - has been on the outer under Bernd Schuster.
Real Madrid did try to offload the him in August, but failed to find takers willing to meet their asking price. The Brazilian has since made precious few appearances this season.
Schuster was keen to sell him, but is supposedly more cautious now in light of Ruud van Nistelrooy's injury. However, a good offer is expected to do the trick.
The player himself is said to be frustrated, and there might just be some joy in the news that Juande Ramos wants him at Tottanham.
Ramos is keen to land a hard working striker who can also drop into midfield and make up the numbers, and has told Damien Comolli that Baptista is a priority.
A 15 million euro offer is supposedly being prepared, a sum Real Madrid were ready to accept this summer.
The only road-block could be Baptista himself, having declared that he detests London and the England weather during his loan spell at Arsenal. But that can surely be forgotten if the offer is right otherwise. It always is!
Julio Baptista has responsed to reports linking him with a move to Tottenham.
Reports in Spain this morning linked Baptista with a move to White Hart Lane as Juande Ramos looks for January reinforcements.
However, the Brazilian insists that there has been no contacnt, nor is there likely to be until Bernd Schuster tells him he is not wanted at the Bernabeu.
“I have not talked to anybody from Tottenham and I just heard about it in the press,” Baptista told setantasports.com.
“I am under contract with Real Madrid and my objective is to play for this team.
“I appreciate Juande’s work, but I have not talked to him and I don’t know much about it.
“My agents have not told me anything in the last days.
“I repeat that I will only leave Real Madrid if the manager Schuster clearly tells me that he doesn’t count on me.”
