Default Adu reiterates Real desire

Quote:
Freddy Adu has reiterated his desire to play for Real Madrid as he begins pre-season training with Real Salt Lake at the Spanish club's training complex.

The 17-year-old is preparing for the forthcoming campaign with his new Major League Soccer side, but is still thinking about a move to Europe.

After impressing during a two-week trial at Manchester United, the American starlet will have a window to prove himself while in Madrid.

Real Salt Lake are due to play a Madrid Select XI in a friendly and Adu is hoping he can catch the eye to lay the foundations for a move to the Bernabeu.

"My desire to come here still stands," Adu said. "Look at the situation I'm in, I play for 'Real' Salt Lake now, so you never know, right?

"Maybe one day, Real Madrid's going to come knocking. We'll see what happens."

Looking ahead to the friendly against the Real Madrid side, Adu is relishing the chance to test his abilities against the Spanish giants.

"I'm definitely looking forward to it," he continued. "It's always a challenge to play against any Real Madrid team.

"I'm young and I know most of those guys are going to be young too. I'd like to compare where I stand to most of them because they play for one of the biggest clubs in the world. It will be a fun experience."

Adu was traded by DC United to Real Salt Lake in December, a move the Ghana-born attacker revealed he wanted.

"I couldn't be happier," he added. "Not a lot of people know this, but it was something I wanted.

"I tried out with Manchester United for two weeks and then made the decision to join a team where I could play in my natural position.

"I'm an attacking midfielder and I knew this team was going to give me an opportunity to play in that position.

"I have a good relationship with coach [John] Ellinger and I asked to be traded to Real Salt Lake."

Considering the rumours are he failed his United trial I wouldn't think any top club would make a proper move for him until he's proven.

Then again his marketing potential is huge and while Real are trying to get away from their "Galacticos" but it's a lot of money and it must be difficult for them to resist.

Real Madrid would ruin his career... He'll be like Robinho..
I don't know why all the young players want Madrid?
I know, they're the biggest team, but they are not promising at all for youngsters and such..

I don't know what La Liga team would be best for Adu. A move to Real Madrid would mean that he would have to be prepared not to be a regular for 3 seasons.

But I think Adu has his sights set on joining a big team (Real Madrid, Manchester United) rather than joining a good european side like Zaragoza or Atletico Madrid and then proving how good he is in europe.
