Real Madrid superstar Roberto Carlos is closer to a summer switch to Chelsea.
The Sunday Mirror says the Brazilian international has struck an agreement with Blues owner Roman Abramovich that he will move to Stamford Bridge in the summer.

Roberto Carlos has publicly admitted that he has put all talk of a new Real contract on-hold until the end of this season.

It's reported today that he will sign a Blues deal worth a stunning £12 million-a-year in the summer.

he is still a good defender,still much better going forward, but not amoung the best "defenders" in the world which are all central defenders

defenders better than carlos at defending? well let's see: nesta, cannavaro, maldini, samuel, ayala, mexes, terry, woodgate, rio, campbell, helguera, lucio, thuram, metzelder and loads more... they're all amateurs compared to carlos when it comes to attacking, but their much better defenders

well we all have our opinions, but more people think he is the best left back one can have.......blowing every canidate out of the water for a DEFENSIVE left back for team of the year at uefa.com

don't get me wrong he would be my first pick for left back in an all star team, my point was only that he wasn't the best defender in the world... many left backs are better at defending but he has other assets most of 'em can only dream about :thumbsup:

as if he is going to chelsea that blows big time and if he does then that means beckham will take free kicks (wich he takes pretty good)but that means madrid will be life less

I dont think its true, you know how rumors get started! Well i hope its not true, Carlos is Real player and he brings so much to the team offensively! You two are both missing the point, the best defense is a good offense and with Roberto attacking out of the back like he does he forces the opposing teams outside midfielder to stay back and watch out for him! The best player in his position is Roberto Carlos! The other defenders you named are better defenders but most of with play in the center and cannot do what Roberto Carlos can do!
