Default Woodgate wants to go back to England

Woodgate gives up. After two years training to recover from his injuries and training alone, Woodgate wants to return home.

Differently to Owen, Johnny adapted well to the squad and found and made good friends in Madrid but tired to fight back to his injuries and working out in an empty gym, he showed his desire to stay in England. He´s been recovering in Leeds since February (last injury) when he knew he wouldn´t play for the rest of the season.

His agents will be looking a team for him in England while the presidency of RM is still "empty".

Woodgate has played 13 games in two years.

He is a top defender and showed his skills and potential in the few times he had his chance. Pity he wants to leave but if he´ll be ever injured is no good for us either.

My opinion is mixed.

Jonathan Woodgate is perhaps one of the the best central defenders in England and Europe when he is fit. The 13 matches he played for Los Merengues has been outstanding and impressing.

Woody has been very loyal and he is very popular in Madrid, and Real Madrid have also been very patient with him. Woody has told that playing for Real Madrid is a dream and that he feels very welcome in the club.

But Real Madrid is Real Madrid. They need results. They can't have a central defender which is injured 90 % of the season. Its better to buy in a good defender which is available through the season.

Its sad but its time to see the hard reality and do something.

However. I have still a hope that Woody can be fit for fight in July, and enter Real Madrids preseason and get fit for the La Liga start in September.

Im a 100% with Penny. Plus, he should stay.. But is hard to pay a player who doesn´t play.

Will he ever be injured??? Otherwise, he should change of profession...

If Cannavaro joins Real Madrid then i'm certain that Woodgate will be heading back to England.I have a feeling that he will return back to Newcastle.I think the Magpies will welcome him home and they need a leader in the center back.It depends on if they will take the risk after all his blown injuryes.Because of that i think Real will let him go cheap and take him off the wages.

I think Woodgate will play in the middle with Cannavaro, when fit. I think Ramos should play on the right with Cicinho. Woodgate is a better player a centre half than Ramos also.

The problem is that one of those mention players will be benched. Some players are to good to be a subsitute.Real Madrid bought Ramos and Cicinho to play regulate first team football.Ramos was outstanding as a right back for Spain in the world cup.But they got Cicinho, therefore Woodgate will be placed on the bench.I don't think have ambitions to be a subsitute. If Real Madrid included Fabio Cannavaro in their squad, off course. He's not signed yet.

Cannavaro has not signed yet and Woodgate can't demand first-team football after two years with injures if the Italian captain joins the Spanish capital.

The season is long. La Liga, Kings Cup, Champions League, International matches and both Cannavaro-Woodgate-Ramos will be banned or injured through a season.

One thing is 100 % sure. Woody will be injured also this season and this is his last chance for Los Merengues. IMO Madrid need three quality defenders and the sub will play sooner or later. Nevertheless, I don't think Cannavaro will be Madridista.

Madrid can also play with three central defenders as they did in 2001. It depends on how Capello wants to play.
