Default Salgado denies exit rumours

Quote:
Michel Salgado has dismissed rumours that he is set to leave Real Madrid in the summer and stated that the players are not solely to blame for the team's failure to win a trophy in recent seasons.

The Spain international is reported to be one of the stars that new president Fernando Martin wants to sell at the end of the current campaign after Cicinho and Carlos Diogo were signed in the last few months.

After seven seasons at El Bernabeu, Salgado is accustomed to the constant speculation surrounding his future and explained that he does not have any problem with the newcomers and expects there to be competition for places in the first team.

"Every year I am on the list of players set to leave," he said. "If it was down to the press I would have left Real Madrid seven years ago.

"My future is clear. I have four years left on my contract here and I shall keep playing. Any other decision can only be made by the club.

"I do not see Cicinho and Diogo as rivals, but as team-mates who fight to win a place along with me. I am not cold. I am just who I am. I do not blame anyone for anything.

"Cicinho is not the only one who has come in, there have been many full backs. I am not bothered because nothing that is reported worries me any more."

Salgado then reflected on Madrid's inability to lift a major honour in the last two seasons and on the realisation that this season could make three in a row.

"The fault lies with everyone at the club," he continued. "The players are always blamed, but there are many other factors too.

"If we had prevented certain things from happening then everything would have gone a lot better. We now have to support the new president and put the mistakes of the past behind us.

"A football team should not allow the things that went on here to have happened. We have to wipe the slate clean and begin again, finish this season and then start from zero."

With speculation mounting over who will be the next coach at the club, Salgado revealed that the squad are used to the constant changes after seeing six trainers take charge over the past three seasons.

"That is a problem for the club," he said. "Right now we are only focused on the rest of the season. The constant changing of coaches does not bother us. We are used to it now. It is something that has always happened here.

"We want to remain as calm as possible. Lopez Caro, as many players have already said, has done a great job and coached the team very well. We all know how important his work is to the team."

Real has so many right wing backs, Salgado, Diogo and Cicinho. So such rumours are usual
