Real Madrid to "clean house"

Real Madrid are set for a major clearout following Florentino Perez's resignation as president this week.

DiarioSport says no less than TEN senior players will be sold at the end of the season as part of an overhaul by new president Fernando Martin.

Zinedine Zidane, Roberto Carlos, Antonio Cassano, Michel Salgado and Ronaldo will headline the departures. Also to be shown the door will be Jon Woodgate, Ivan Helguera, Thomas Gravesen and Pablo Garcia.

Home-grown players Raul Bravo and Oscar Minambres will be among a shortlist also allowed to move on in the summer.

New president Martin already has his hit-list drawn up and save winning the Champions League, a massive changeover of players will happen at the end of this season.

I can't see that many players being sold. That's just too big. Michel Salgado, Ronaldo, Jonathon Woodgate, Ivan Helguera and Thomas Gravesen are probably the most likely to go. Why Cassano though? He's just arrived.

I'm not really sure what your point is. Real bought him to flip him, they did it with a few others like Owen for example. It doesn't make them bad players.

And just because Real isn't using him, doesn't mean they are making the right decision. For example, against Arsenal, they should of brought him on, instead of Raul...however, its easy to pick on things after the fact.

no 1 doubted his acquisition was economical.

the few games he has played, he has been 1 of madrid's best players. even yesterday vs valencia he comes on late in the 2nd and sets up a scoring chance for ronaldo (who would get a pk and miss)

The main problem is the temporary manager Lopez Caro.

He has Raul, Ronaldo, Baptista and Cassano in the squad. And he is only using one single striker on top.

Cassano will get a lot of time in the Real Madrid kit, but he will also start some of the matches on the bench. He is very popular in Madrid and personally I had played him as regular striker.

I think the new manager will use two strikers on top, and Cassano will probably be one of them.

We have to remember that a club like Real Madrid need quality strikers on the bench too. Cassano, Raul, Ronaldo and Baptista is good to have through a season with La Liga, Champions League, KingsCup and international matches.

Cassano was also a win-win transfer. He is one of Europas best strikers and he is young and talented. He didn't coast Real Madrid much to sign, and if he fails in the club, they can sell him and earn very good money on him. But that was not the reason why they bought him. Ronaldo and Raul were injured, and Baptista was horrible and didn't score. Now, when all four are back in business, and only one place is avaiable on top, they must fight.

However, Cassano should have played from start against both Arsenal and Valencia.
