Camacho wants van Bommel

Real Madrid coach Jose Camacho is believed to be locked in discussions with club president Florentino Perez over mounting a bid for Mark van Bommel.

Having missed out on Patrick Vieira, Camacho is desperate to bring in a midfielder - but Perez has hinted that there will be no more arrivals.

The purchase of Michael Owen and Jonathan Woodgate has strengthened the squad, and depleted the coffers, but Camacho desperately wants a holding midfielder.

Van Bommel has already turned down offers of a move to Spain in the past - with both Real and Barcelona snubbed in their approaches.

The Holland international has been a key part of PSV Eindhoven's team for several years, despite longstanding interest from several clubs in Spain, Italy and England.

Everton are the latest Premiership club to fail in an attempt to land the tough-tackling Dutchman.

Real Madrid insiders have denied their interest in PSV Eindhoven midfielder Mark van Bommel.

It emerged yesterday that Barcelona had approached PSV about the Holland international, only to be told that Real Madrid had first refusal on Van Bommel.

But Real sources have denied the reports to AS, insisting the signing of Jonathan Woodgate is the last piece of business for the club this summer.
