Default MADRID MAKE MOVE FOR AYALA

Valencia are considering their next move after confirming on Thursday that Real Madrid have made an approach for their Argentininian international defender Roberto Ayala.

Madrid, the Spanish champions, are desperate to add defensive quality to their squad, and have made 30-year-old Ayala their number one target.

Valencia president Jaime Orti said on Thursday: "There is formal interest from Real Madrid for Roberto Ayala.

"Valencia have not decided what to do.

"We will meet this afternoon to reach a decision whether the player stays or whether we will negotiate with Real Madrid."

Ayala was a commanding figure at the heart of the Valencia defence when they won the Spanish title in 2002, and he also played a crucial role in the teams which reached the 2001 Champions League final.

No news of a fee has emerged, though Ayala is rated in the top bracket of Spain-based defenders.

I heard that Valencia doesn't want to sell him. The club considers to give him a new contract!
