Exactly what I want. Helguera is not a defender, he is worldclass in midfield. Two new quality defenders in + Michael Owen and Fernando Morientes is backup for Ronaldo and Raul. Solari, Celades and Guti will backup Zidane, Figo and Beckham.

The only thing I miss is a real backup for Salgado. Raul Bravo, Pavon and Mejia are not right defenders, only Minambres. I had hope that Seltaridis/Miguel had joined as backup for him, because the season is long... very long.

You have to say Mejia did his job when he had to come in. I would say Mejia is a good back up with Bravo but they still have to work on a couple things. But overall they are good

Anyone else think owen may play at times with raul and ronaldo. With beckham in defensive midfielder, reason why they bought two quality defenders.

Could have done better with the transfers... what can we do now, wait and see what happens.
But I don't like the fact that we have only 2 defensive midfielders in the whole squad.

I think woodgate is a fantastic signing alongside samuel. If you can keep him fit, he be a star. As for Owen im still not sure why he was bought. You should have done everything to get Vieira.

Ps welcome to the site mate.

Thanks mate.

No, I don't think we should have got Vieira for the rediculous price Arsenal wanted, but there are other players we could get.
For the money we spent on Owen and Woodgate we could get Cannavaro, Coloccini and Xabi Alonso for instance, much more useful.

Yeh true but i rate woodgate very highly, i think he is englands best defender outside maybe terry. Its just that you missed the boat with xabi alonso, he is quality and shame he is now at a very poor club.

Currently Ferdinand (when he returns), Campbell and Terry are ahead of Woodgate in the England NT pick list, so I don't know if he really is that good.
Perhaps he just draws attention because he's young, talented and not from MU or Arsenal...
He had many injuries lately didn't he, who knows if he'll even last a whole season.

Hes definally good enough to play in that madrid defence mate, its just he has been the most unluckiest player with injuries. When he has played you can see why he is a great player.

Got my fingers crossed that this lad will be healthy and successful.

Still I think we need more defensive midfielders, a versatile player like Coloccini would help a lot.
