Twas an under-rated goal that by Torres. Not sure about goal of the season like.
The Woodgate/Elano shouts are atrocious. Woodgate gets so much praise from the media despite never producing a really consistent string of performances, whilst the shout on Elano is just plain wrong.

Elano award should be most dissapointing 2nd half of the seaosn, it's no coincidence when he started to play poor, so did Man city, or the other way round maybe...

A few things, Joe Cole should not be in the team of the year. I can understand if a Chelsea player ought to be included, but Ballack and Lampard both deserve it more, even if they're not LMs it doesn't really matter....
Although it should be Ashley Young anyway, 8 goals and 17 assists in 37 games is a phenomenal return.
Elano as flop of the season is a joke, they've only done it for the shock factor. I mean, even against Boro his goal was bloody awesome, I was going to suggest it as a contender for goal of the season. Sure his form has dipped, but there have been loads of signings who have lost or not earned as many points for their team as Elano, like most of Newcastle's signings ( ).
As for best buy, it's between Tevez and Torres for me. Yes of course it's biased, but if you consider it, without him United wouldn't have won the league, the number of huge goals he got was phenomenal.
And goal of the season... I don't think it's Torres's.
I think the main contenders are Petrov's v Derby (the only thing he's done all season and yes it was v Derby but it was great technique and from a hell of a distance), Ronaldo's freekick v Pompey, Ronaldo's backheel v Villa, Elano's goal v Boro, Rochemback's freekick v Man City....
I'm sure I've forgotten a few but those certainly spring to mind.
And rising star... yeah Michael Johnson ain't a bad choice, although by their reasoning he should probably be a falling star since he hasn't had a great second half to the season.
Ashley Young is in with a shout too although I guess he'd already risen beforehand.

^^Agreed i'd pick petrov vs derby for goal of the season
For worst buy i'd have David Nugent.
Best Buy i'd have Santa Cruz

How can someone as daft as you support Liverpool. Clown.
Goal of the season. one of Ronaldo's freekicks? Shut up.
Goal of the season could be picked from any of the beauties scored by Arsenal this season.
If it was going to be a freekick, try one of the beauties Elano scored at the beginning of the year.
As for Woodgate, shockingly over-rated. Poor buy IMO. Spurs have two CBs better than him anyway. Santa Cruz for signing of the season.
Elano was far from the worst signing of the season. Fabulous player, over-used by Sven.
Worst signing - McFadden. 5million for him??? And what about Darren Bent???????

Oh, and Bruce as manager of the year?? For what?? Keeping up Wigan. If keeping a team up wins the award, Roy Hodgson anyone?

On McFadden, if you cared to watch any of Birmingham's games, when he joined, you would have noticed McFadden was suprisingly good. Although I agree given he was injured alot, so 5M is maybe too much.
Anyway
Worst signing has to be Joey Barton
Best signing is Santa Cruz

By the way, thats not Sky Sports news' selections.
If you read it, it says 'Reporter Lewis Rutledge makes his selections, and also looks at his pre-season predictions.'
The official team of the season etc was made live on Sky Sports News and was a lot different to that one.

Typical Scot, determined to believe all Scottish players are good.
McFadden has been awful, a good friend of mine works for Brum, and he's told me that you can count on one hand the amount of good games McFadden had.
Add the injuries, the ridiculous amount paid for him despite never showing his was worth even half that much, and you have the worst buy of the season.

I don't deny that I over rate (it's not like the English don't have the same problem). But from what I've seen of McFadden he does well for a half and then is rubbish the second half.
I still stand by Joey Barton.
