I think the commentator didn't express himself well, the fact that he put down Totti also in the same breath, tells me that the English media's perceptions of what football is and isn't is not right.

How can you brush off an entire season? And just bring up one match's highlights?

It's Irish media first of all,

didn't even mention Joe Cole so bit cifuddled why you bring him up.

TBH I agree with most of what the guy says,

I love the line "the relallity is Kaka , the hype is Ronaldo" .

Bloody morons.

"not a great player" - tell that to the man who has worked with Ronaldo of Brazil, Zidane, Figo and Roberto Carlos, not to metion the man who's worked with the like of Ryan Giggs, Eric Cantona, Roy Keane, Beckham and Paul Scholes, still not to mention the people who have top tally up all the goals and assissts he scores, even still not to mention anyone with a shred of intellegence, who has seen the consistency in Ronaldo's game first hand.

As for "the relallity is Kaka , the hype is Ronaldo," why does the Brazilian coaching Portugal, who has won the world cup with Brazil, have a completely reverse view? I think it's clear that the only matches these guys are watching are the Champions League games; league form of Ronaldo,, and Kaka, is forgottn completely.

The whole thing is far too harsh on Ronaldo, and they go from just being overly harsh blind men to pure idiots on the line:

"I think Liverpool will win, they'l be too much for Milan up front"

Kuyt-Crouch and a pair of shoddy wingers up aginst Oddo-Nesta-Maldini-Jank, covered by Gattuso, and more importantly being a team who know how to defend, and that's the conclusion they come too?

Maybe Ronaldo shagged his daughter?

It's the only logical excuse I can think of for this rant.

That would explain it, actually. And Kaka is the son he always wanted, with Anfield his prefered marriage venue. It's all politics!

This is an old video, Ronaldo still is playing at a very high level scoring goals and making things happen for man utd the more he keeps doing this the more respect he will get and more people will be forced to change their minds.

Im glad he is taking his form from last season and doing it again this year it shows he has class but I expected it all along. when I first saw him play I knew he was going to be one of the top players in a few years.

The only way to respond is to answer on the pitch, and not with words and thats what hes been doing especially ever since the world cup he reacted to all the criticism in the best possible fashion and he keeps going from strength to strength helping man united to important victories and portugal to euro 2008.

I wonder what those geezers are saying now. Makes me laugh watching them criticise a Man Utd legend in the making.

RTE Two is an Irish television channel (RTE means Radio Telefís Éireann).

By all accounts the pundits have some strong opinions and they don't let little things like facts stop them.

The point they were making is that Ronaldo doesn't keep it simple enough to be considered a great player.

He's a great matchwinner who's having a great season but not a great player because he tries too many little flicks.

That's not just negative, it's retarded and quite simply not true. They highlighted 2 or 3 examples from Ronaldo's (and the whole team's) worst performance of the season, and presented it as if that was what he'd been doing all season.

It's like us saying, Drogba or Lampard aren't actually that good because although they score unbelievable amounts of goals and are great matchwinners who had great seasons, they're not great players because they shoot several times a game and they don't score with every shot.

I made a point recently about modern players' faults being scrutinized too closely and then used as a weapon against them being considered great, and i think that definitely applies here. These people talk as if George Best never had a game like Ronaldo had against Milan there, when we all know he did, he MUST have.

Having said that, its refreshing to see a football show in which the pundits have an actual opinion instead of the safely safely approach favoured by the BBC or the likes of Jamie Redknapp on SKY. These days far too many pundits get away with trotting out the same old media cliches, without any logic or backup

"United wont win the league without a recognized number 9"
"Liverpool rotate too much"
"Arsenal's downfall is that they try and score the perfect goal"
"Newcastle fans deserve success"
"Pretty football doesnt win you titles"

At least the likes of Liam Brady here are actually putting forward an opinion, people might not agree with it but I'd rather listen to that every week than hear Mark Lawrenson's watered down view on Rafa's rotation policy.
