Cristiano Ronaldo bottle yob trapped by DNA
29/06/2008
(What's this?)Cops tracked down a soccer yob from his DNA left on a Coke bottle he hurled at Man United star Cristiano Ronaldo.
Newcastle fan Tony Heslop, 18, saw red when Ronaldo launched into a goal celebration in front of home fans as United went 3-0 up at St James's Park in February.
The bottle missed the Portuguese ace but it was picked up by referee Chris Foy, who handed it to police as Heslop disappeared into the crowd.
Officers matched DNA found on it to a sample given earlier by Heslop when he was cautioned for car theft, Newcastle magistrates were told.
Trainee electrician Heslop was banned from grounds in England and Wales for three years and ordered to pay £155 costs.

Cristiano Ronaldo misses tour to get fit for Manchester United
By Simon Mullock 29/06/2008
(What's this?)Cristiano Ronaldo will be left behind when Manchester United go on their pre-season tour to Africa.
United are so confident of keeping Ronaldo out of the clutches of Real Madrid that they have decided to extend the winger's summer break by a further four days following his efforts at Euro 2008.
United insist Ronaldo's extended break is designed to help him to avoid an operation to cure a nagging ankle injury and has nothing to do with Madrid's persistence in trying to entice the 23-year-old to the Bernabeu.
Ronaldo was expected to undergo surgery immediately after Portugal's quarter-final exit at the hands of Germany so that he could begin pre-season training on July 9 - exactly three weeks after his last game.
Instead, he went on holiday with the club's blessing and has been told not to report back until July 14 - two days before United jet off on their tour of South Africa and Nigeria.
Rather than take Ronaldo on tour in a bid to convince him his long-term future remains with United, Ferguson will allow him to stay home to begin pre-season training.
A United source said: "The decision has been taken because the manager wants to ensure Cristiano is fit for the start of the Premier League and doesn't suffer burn-out." Manager Sir Alex Ferguson and chief executive David Gill return to work from holiday tomorrow insisting it is business as usual at Old Trafford.

I think Ronaldo's staying this summer.
Ferguson said he only expects to sign one player, and since he made it clear at the start of the transfer window that he wanted a #9 striker that wouldn't make sense if Ronnie was leaving as well.
And the English newspapers are suggesting Ronaldo is unhappy with Real's behaviour as well so he's choosing to stay
I'm hoping it's true, although for how long it'd put off his desire to move only he knows...

He'll stay! But it's funny how one player can create such mayhem. Ronaldo os on vacation in Italy with his famila and fugly GF. Next week he'll fly to madeira.
I don't think Real had any intentions to sign him.... they just wanted to piss off fergie & Man U.

How long was Zequinha suspended in the end?
I do think Real had/have every intention of signing Ronaldo, it's just United have no intention of selling.
