Btw, As soon as Gary Bettman came out to present the cup, I stgarted cursing, he is so fake with his speeches, glad everyone booed.... the guy is pathetic! Bring back the Jets, Nordiques & Whalers you a**hole.
Jec, you get a ton of rep regarding Bettman. I stood away from Hockey almost ten years because of the way he destroy the sport. I used to love watching teams like winnipeg, Quebec, and Harford play and saw those teams many times at MSG. I also been to a few games at the Harford Civic center and they always had a passionate crowd. This man is anti-Canadian and almost allowed the Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames to move out of Canada..Nobody cares about Hockey in the Sunbelt states, but Hockey is supreme up north.

Seriously, Bettman has destroyed the game....he's a very intelligent man, but trying to expand the NHL in non hockey markets is hurting the league as a whole.

Even Tiger Woods, when asked who would win the stanely cup said "Ask me about the Dogers, no one cares about hockey here"

Get the teams out of the southern states and give Winnipeg their team back.

Funny how all southern teams are calling Jim Balsillie about investing/buying their teams.

Jim Balsillie is just like us, he wants to bring a canadian team back into the fold.

Bettman should resign! I thinK Colin Campbell should be the next in line, he's canadian and understands the economics of the business side.

I still have one of the Nords' & Whalers' jerseys in my closet, so beautiful in style.

Hockey is really huge in New Jersey and the kids are really into the game. Jamie Langenbrunner was helping out coaching the kids at practice the other day. I agree that nobody cares for the game in places like Nashville or Florida. They should move a few more teams up North and Hartford should get their team back..

Bettman has all the owners on his side ever since bringing in the cap...majority of the southern teams loved him for the cap...but now that the cap will increase to i thin 56M..the minimum that teams have to spend is around 40m. So, now some owners are starting to get pissed.

Either way, we'll expect a lockout in a few years against the Cap..or the players will move to the Russian league and make their money.

That Russian league is really going to hurt the NHL. They are a bunch of franchises which will go under or need to be move.I can't understand why Bettman prevented Nashville from going to Hamilton. I guess he's afraid that all his southern belt teams will move up North to places like Winnipeg or Quebec. He needs to understand that most americans don't care about Hockey.

The reason why Hamilton doesn't have a team is bc of Bettman. (Wven though Bettman denies it, obviously) Jim Basille offered Craig Leipold 225m for Nasville...then bc Basille got ahead of himself and secured the rights to play at Copps Coliseum in Hamilton before the transaction was complete...Bettman's ego was hurt and shut down the deal and NAS sold for like 185m. Months later.....Leipold manages to own Minnesota, thanks to Bettman. Bettman basically told Leipold to take a less offer....and will get him a a new team. Talk a bout a screw job to Basille...now that all this has happened to Basille....the chances of the Governors approving any deal that involves him, are extremely unlikely. And it's a shame too, bc Basille loves hockey and would probably do a lot to generate interest...where ever the team is located.

I've heard that the Russian league would likely attract second tier players...the Cap is still high enough that players like Crosby, Malkin, Ovechkin can still make 10m a year...but second tier players may go to Russia. At the owners meetings last week they discussed the new league. I feel, if they do not raise or get rid of the cap system...a lot of players will leave and will result in the smaller team in the South folding.

Default NHL DRAFT 2008 - Steve Stamkos 1st pick overall

The New York Rangers just drafted defensemen Del Zotto from the Oshwaha Generals...Jec, must know something about this kid..Is this a good draft pick? Tampa Bay drafted first and got Stamkos, this kid is amazing...

Good pick for NYR.... you guys got Marc Staal in the back with Delzotta. He grew up with Tavares, Stamkos and Pieterangelo when they played with the Markham Waxers. Though his stock dropped considerably, he should've been picked at 15.

Analysis:

Quote:
IN THE OHL DRAFT A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO, STAMKOS WENT FIRST AND DEL ZOTTO WENT SECOND. HIS GAME HAS TAILED OFF A LITTLE BIT SINCE AND HE HAD A POOR UNDER-18 TOURNAMENT, BUT HE'S A GREAT PASSER WITH A GOOD SHOT. MATURITY IS A QUESTION MARK. HE'S CERTAILNY GOT ALL THE TOOLS, HE'S JUST GOT TO GET THE TOOLBOX ORGANIZED.

Some draft deals:

Quote:
The Flames acquired forward Mike Cammalleri from the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for the 17th overall pick in this year's draft. That deal was a three-way trade that saw LA deal the 17th selection and its 28th pick to Anaheim for the Ducks 12th overall pick in this year's draft.

WOW! Calgary has some good talent.... Iginla, Cammalleri & Lombardi on the same line

Quote:
The Columbus Blue Jackets have acquired forward R.J. Umberger and the 119th pick overall from the Philadelphia Flyers for 19th and 67th picks.

Umberger was the best player on last years playoffs.

Quote:
The Florida Panthers have traded centre and team captain Olli Jokinen to the Phoenix Coyotes in a draft-day deal announced Friday at Scotiabank Place in Ottawa. The Coyotes sent defencemen Nick Boynton and Keith Ballard along with a second-round pick (49th overall) in this year's draft.

Good deal for both clubs.
