Markus Naslund, a 15-season NHL veteran and five-time NHL All-Star agreed to terms on a contract with the Rangers on Thursday, the team announced in a 4:30 p.m. conference call.

Naslund, who had been captain of the Vancouver Canucks since the 2000-01 season, said he had wanted to come to New York from the moment he became an unrestricted free agent at noon on Tuesday.

"It seems like everyone that's played for the Rangers said you only get a chance to play there once in a lifetime, and you have to take advantage of it," said Naslund, citing advice he had taken from ex-Vancouver teammates Mark Messier and Brian Noonan, who were members of the Rangers' 1994 Stanley Cup championship team.

The Rangers also announced during the conference call that they had signed former Buffalo defenseman Dmitri Kalinin.
