I think CQ is aware that Malta and Denmark are extremely different teams but he will also know that Denmark won't come and try to attack us they will try to keep us at bay first then hit us on the counters so he should START the Malta game the way he plans to start the Denmark game.

Based on current form I'd like to see this.

-------------------Quim---------------
Boswinga----Pepe-----Carvalho---Antunes
---------Maniche----Mendes-----------
Nani-----------Deco--------------Simao
---------------Yannick-----------------

This formation is the easiest for us to use because of our depth of wingers.

But I'd like to see us try a "brazilian" like Diamond. The only problem is our midfielders aren't very physically strong but just to have a second system I'd like to see this.

-------------------Quim---------------
Boswinga----Pepe-----Carvalho---Antunes
-----------------Mendes---------------
--------Maniche--------Moutinho-------
-----------------Deco-----------------
---------Yannick-----Nani-------------

Width would have to be provided by the full backs, which both Antunes and Boswinga are probably BETTER attackers then defenders (not saying either are bad defenders just saying their strengths come in attack) cover for the fullbacks from the trinco (mendes) The hustle and bustle in midfield from Moutinho and Maniche (plug in Manelele for either because I think his time is coming). Deco will play in his favourite and best spot as a #10. Nani will play as a support striker with the license to go wide and link up with full backs (plug Ronaldo here when fit) and Yannick as the #9. (Postiga, Nuno ANYONE but Almeida can go here) Problem here is no spot for Q and Simao two very talented individuals, but it is a way to play with 2 "strikers".

I expect a team pretty similar to the one Carlos Queiroz put out against the Faroe Islands, this is more the team I expect than the one I want:

Quim

Bosingwa Carvalho Pepe Antunes (?)

Meireles

Deco Maniche (?)

Nani Simao

Almeida (?)

The question marks are next to the players who's positions are up for the taking. Antunes proved to be solid against weak opposition but I'm not sure Queiroz will have enough confidence to play him yet in a real game. Maniche owned that spot for years and is world class when he plays for Portugal but it has been a while since we've seen him there and there are lots of players available for that spot. Almeida is also a big decision, he had a bad game against the Faroe Islands and Yannick is ready and deserves a debut but Almeida could be a favorite of Quieroz's as he was started over Gomes last time.

I guess that Ricardo is now history with the National team and Quim is finally getting his chance to be the starter.

WTF?!?!?!? Changing the players numbers?!?!?!? Before they could wear any number they wanted during the qualifiers!!!!

Quote:

MALTA: Haber; Briffa, Said, Dimech e Shaun Bajada (Wellman); Sammut, Agius, Pace e Woods; Mifsud e Barbara.
Treinador: Dusan Fitzel.

PORTUGAL: Quim; Bosingwa, Pepe, Ricardo Carvalho e Antunes; João Moutinho, Maniche (Raul Meireles) e Deco; Nani, Nuno Gomes e Simão.
Treinador: Carlos Queiroz.
