Guys, simple question -

Who did more for Portugal's NT - Eusebio or Figo???

Participated in 1 WC were we reached the semifinal and then beat Russia for 3rd place. Scored 9 goals.

First game: 12-10-1991, no Luxemburgo, frente ao Luxemburgo (1-1)
Last game: 08-07-2006, em Estugarda, frente à Alemanha (1-3)

If Eusebio was playing in his prime in today's era, he would be unstoppable.

Though, Figo was equally as good.

Yes Eusebio put Portugal on the map, but Figo brought it back to life after it had fallen off.

it's hard to compare from my point of view. What I mean is futebol now is more fast paced and more skill full than it was back then.. but they are both portuguese legends... soo I can't tell you who.. but WOW do I ever miss Figo.. he was soo smooth with the ball just a FANTASTIC player! soo smart with the ball aswell and when he wanted to he would completly tear defeners up with just the simplest move!

I dont think either of them should be credited with doing MORE for portuguese soccer than the other. The way I see it, Eusebio started something, Figo revived and continued it, and now Ronaldo has the torch.

Eusebio is the greatest Portuguese player ever but I voted for Figo because I felt he did the most for the NT.

Eusebio dominated world cup 66 and led us to third.

Figo was a key inspiration in Portugal making semi finals of WC in 2006, Euro 2000, helped us reach the final of euro 2004 and helped represent Portugal in WC 2002 and EC 1996.

Figo appeared and graced the international stage much more wearing the Portuguese jersey, Eusebio sadly only got the play in 1 tournament. It was however harder to qualify to tournaments in those times because WC had only 16 teams and euro cup had only a few as well.

Figo wasnt the only player on his team of course, there was Rui Costa, Joao Pinto Fernado Couto, Costa, Conceicao, C.Ronaldo etc who plaeyd alongside him.

Eusebio gets alot of attention, but that Portugal team wasnt a "One man team" as many people seem to suggest. in fact players such as Torres, Simoes, Jose Augusto, Mario Coluna, Germano, Hilario etc from that team all rank as amongst the best players to ever wear the red jersey of Portugal. Eusebio has support around him to help him shine, just like Figo had and Figo didnt score nearly as many goals but his role in the team was different.

for me figo is the best NT player, played in 2 world cups and 3 euro cups acheiving some of the best results in NT history, he was capped 127 times scored 33 -odd goals and countless assists and was always an important part of the national team in his career.

This is exactly why I voted for this player.......the legend Eusebio. Aside from that, he still continues to do so much for Portugal as he continues to travel with the team to major competitions.

9 Goals in a World Cup I know Figo was a different player, but no one has had THAT much of an influence as 9 goals for our NT in a tournament.
