Scolari going to try two strikers Postiga and Pauleta in the game with South Arabia

Futebol/Selecção Nacional: Scolari testa Pauleta e Postiga juntos O seleccionador nacional, Luiz Felipe Scolari, testou hoje os avançados Pedro Pauleta e Hélder Postiga, podendo utilizá-los depois de amanhã em simultâneo no jogo particular com a Arábia Saudita, em Dusseldorlf, Alemanha. Sem Deco e Luís Figo, ausentes com autorização na única sessão de trabalho realizada em Portugal - a selecção viaja terça-feira para a Alemanha -, Scolari testou inicialmente os dois avançados em conjunto, com Hugo Viana e Cristiano Ronaldo no apoio. Além destes quatro jogadores, o seleccionador colocou ainda Quim na baliza (os 11 futebolistas atacavam contra o guarda-redes do Benfica), fez alinhar uma defesa com Miguel, Fernando Meira, Jorge Andrade e Nuno Valente e colocou Costinha e Maniche com missões mais defensivas a meio-campo. Pouco depois, “Felipão” chamou Paulo Ferreira, Marco Caneira, Petit e Ricardo Quaresma e passou a uma estratégia em 4x3x3: aqui, o seleccionador “promoveu” Hugo Viana a “10” e colocou Quaresma e Ronaldo nas alas, no apoio a Pauleta. Luís Figo ficou-se por banhos e massagens na unidade hoteleira onde a selecção estagia e Deco trabalhará mais tarde sob as ordens do preparador físico Darlan Schneider. A selecção portuguesa viaja às 9h30 de amanhã para Dusseldorf, cumprindo o treino de adaptação à LTU Arena, às 17h30. Portugal defronta depois de amanhã a Arábia Saudita em Dusseldorf, naquele que será o único jogo de preparação da equipa antes da concentração final para o Mundial’2006. O encontro está agendado para as 20h45 locais (19h45 em Lisboa), no estádio LTU Arena, e vai ser dirigido pelo alemão Wolfgang Stark.

Does anyone know how Postiga has been playing. I do not see how he could be called up before strikers like Nuno Gomes.

Nuno Gomes and Simao got the day off because of the games with the CL

let's not forget the 10 goals by Joao Tomas in the Superliga

yes good point Joao Tomas is deserving of a chance, but Postiga is one of Scolari's "afilhados."

without Turkey in the world cup, Portugal will be the team with the most fans, because they can travel from France, Switzerland, Luxemburg, from all over Germany etc.

A last-minute strike from Raffaele Palladino has given the Azzurrini a prestigious 1-0 away victory in Portugal.

The international friendly was a warm-up for the European Under-21 Championships, especially as they were playing the host nation for this summer’s tournament.

Chievo defender Giuseppe Scurto and Ascoli attacking midfielder Pasquale Foggia were the only new faces tested out by Coach Claudio Gentile and both came on as second half substitutes.

The winner came in the final minute, as Palladino ran on to a through ball and stroked home the finish with his left foot.

It had been an uneventful first half with both teams failing to make midfield possession count, though Italy had the best chances with Fiorentina’s Giampaolo Pazzini setting up Palladino, only for the Juventus-owned forward to turn just over the bar.

Hugo Almeida was off target for the home side and Bruno Amaro was unlucky to see his shot deflected wide off teammate Almeida before Palladino’s last-gasp winner.

The European Under-21 Championships will be held in Portugal from May 25 to June 6.

Big victory for us, I see more positives for us going into the Euro.

Gentile is going places in the near future.
