It's funny I see a notable SI football writer everyday at Starbucks I wouldn't mind telling him a few choosen words about his magazine. I agree with the lack of knowledge the Americans have toward Portugal. They almost allowed our homeland to become a communist country back in the 70's without knowing how important Portugal is to western europe. They look at our soccer as being weak because United States beat Portugal in the last world cup 3-2.

This match is starting to scare the hell out of me...Iran beat Bosnia 5-2 yesterday and are starting to look like a pretty tough team to beat.

World Cup Upsets
There are a few games that could be possible upsets in the first round of the World Cup. Italy vs. Ghana, Ivory Coast vs. Argentina, and the last is Portugal vs. Iran. Hopefully, Portugal will play their game and don't have a melt down. Portugal need to play a very smart and mentally effective game and don't under estimate these guys because they can hurt you. As far as the other two matches I see some major upsets. Ivory Coast will pull off an amazing upset and sent Argentine reeling out of this tournament. I also see Italy getting beat by this Ghana team and Essien would have a big match.

I know we are passionate about Portugal but try not to take this as an issult against Portuguse futebol. I believe the Ivory Coast have a good chance of being the surprise team of WC 06 and if they face Portugal the selecao may underestimate them and lose. I think that is how SI sees it.
Hopefully we dont make the same mistake we made in the last world cup and Euro by not taking weaker sides seriously.

Portugal arrived in Luxemburg but they kept the portuguese immigrants out of reach of the players for security purposes
