One thing that portugal has on its side this time around is, unlike '66 (where we had an elite team, then lacked talent for most of the following years), is the fact that players like Deco, Ronaldo, and Figo exist, generating fan bases, and landing promo deals, and essentially putting money back into the fpf economy. Its all political, we all know that, therfore with portugal's "international status" rising a chain reaction occurs (Portugal wins tournaments, players get better an excel, players become popular, portuguese soccer is noticed, ...and essentially the capability to draft and train new up and coming youngsters is given.
remember, how many portugal fans, OTHER THAN PORTUGUESE PEOPLE, was ther 10-15yrs ago? and now?? asian people love us lol

no, Portugal looks to remain competitive in the foreseeable future.
Unless all these great young prospects we keep hearing about turn out to be flops- which wont happen I mean there are a great number of quality prospects in Portuguese futebol atm The future looks bright.
btw welcome to the forum Da Rosa.

My dream is to see Portugal lift the World Cup Trophy, but I know it will be very difficult. Portugal would probably lift the 2008 European Championship, but I do feel that they will have a good run in the world cup.
