Im pretty sure Rui Costa's 10 is retired.
Im also pretty sure its tradition for the starters to be numbered 1 -11. and if so C. Ronaldo better not change his number or i will be really angry and will be posting a #17 C RONALDO HOME JERSEY on ebay along with the rest of the world.
Maniche still #18?
Deco 20?
Miguel i think will start and wear 2
& give Simao's 11 to someone starting.
Costinha 6 , Figo 7 , Pauleta 9, Ricardo 1, the rest are not for sure.

First off if ROnaldo changes his number I will be out 90 bucks or so. But Nike mass produced his jersey and I dont think he will change his number yet.
Number ten has to be used because FIFA requires the numbers 1-23 to be assigned so I believe Deco will take 10.
My guess is that a few players will change their number. I will post the official numbers here when they are released on thursday

Deco could possibly change to number 10, but just remember numbers are given based on position (to an extent) ex. Goalie = #1, defenders = lower numbers. However, nowadays, the whole 'number-by-position' method seems to be ignored most of the time so, anything is possible
ps. I didn't think they retired jerseys in soccer?? could be way off.

Portugal's Formation:Thoughts?
Portugal's formation is 4-2-3-1, do you think this is a strong formation?(remember euro finals: greece). Do you think this formation is harming portugal? Or do you think portugal has no choice, based on their players?

I remember reading on a website that no player would wear 10 for portugal at WC 06 out of respect after he announced his retirement from international soccer. same was said for figo's 7. it takes a big man to wear that , but ronaldo is just that!

i like the 1 striker, i feel its only one player that isnt helping the back line in this formation as apose to 2 strikers. Which improves team defence.
2 trincos IMO are great for allowing figo, ronaldo, and deco to attack without having to be relied to defend a lot.
and the formation is great for moving the ball down the wings, makes sense when thats our greatest strength. RB, LB, RW, & LW can push up freely with the trincos covering them.
thats why Scolari is the best. he tried 3 defenders, it didnt work, and heres something that does.
-----------------Pauleta
Figo-----------------------------Ronaldo
------------------Deco
----------Maniche
----------------------Costinha
Valente---------------------------Miguel
---------Meira--------Carvahlo
---------------Ricardo

Well, you could try a diamond;
..........................Ricardo
Miguel........Meira.........Carvalho.......Ferreir a
........................Costinha
...........Maniche...............Tiago
...........................Deco
..............Pauelta.........Ronaldo
Just like Mourinho's Porto.
That said, you will definitely see a 4231 with Scolari.

I would rather see Petit then costinha in the starting lineup. Regarding Figo it might be a better idea to bring him in during the second half and try to save his legs for later in the tournament.
