The 32-year-old missed the majority of last season with an Achilles injury but was offered a new deal by the relegated Royals.

However, Pompey boss Harry Redknapp has made a surprise move for the winger and he has signed a 12-month deal at Fratton Park.

Reading director of football Nick Hammond told the club's official website: "We offered Glen a new contract but it appears the lure of the Premier League and European football proved too strong."

Little made just two appearances in the top flight last season but played over 100 times for Steve Coppell's side in total after joining for free from Burnley in 2004.
Gonna Need him because of UEFA Cup

Glen Little has insisted his move from Reading to Portsmouth "was a great opportunity for me at this stage of my career".

Little told The News: "It's been a mad time for me and I can't believe this has happened. There was talk of it happening for a couple of days but the move took place literally overnight.

"I was happy at Reading but then this offer came up at the last minute. I think they understood this was a great opportunity for me at this stage of my career. To come to a club like Portsmouth is just too good an offer to turn down.

"I can't believe my luck! I've come to a great club, with great players, a brilliant manager and excellent support. I had injury problems last season but I feel fine now and have been training all summer. I'm ready for the new season."
