Morfeo signs for Brescia

Parma ace Domenico Morfeo admits he is unsure about his future given that he is still owned by Inter.

The creative attacking midfielder has confirmed that he will return to the Nerazzurri this summer, even if he is unlikely to stay at the San Siro.

"I still have two years left on my contract with Inter and I’ll go back there for the time being," he told Radio Radio.

"If I am asked to just make up the numbers in the squad then I will refuse because that is something that I have never done.

"I am 29 now and I want to be playing football regularly because I am at the peak of my maturity."

The former Atalanta, Milan and Fiorentina player also failed to rule out staying at Parma after the club avoided relegation.

"I’m happy at Parma but we’ll see what happens," he continued. "If I leave then I’m not that interested in where my next destination is. I just want certain guarantees."

Domenico Morfeo has been suspended by Parma due to “disciplinary reasons” in a mysterious row with the club.

The creative midfielder has a long history of disagreements with teammates and sides in his career, but this was an unexpected turn to his Tardini tenure.


“Today it was decided, due to disciplinary reasons, not to use the player Domenico Morfeo in the Trofeo Colombino tournament,” read a Parma statement.


“The player, who is returning to Italy, will miss today’s game against Recreativo Huelva and tomorrow’s with Real Zaragoza.”


The reasons behind this sudden split are mysterious, but clearly something very serious must have happened to send Morfeo home early from a friendly tour of Spain.


The Gialloblu will face Recreativo Huelva this evening with a 21.00 kick-off, UK time, and Zaragoza on Wednesday also at 21.00.


Morfeo is now 31 years old and started his career at Atalanta, moving on to Fiorentina, Milan, Verona, Cagliari, Inter and Parma in 2003-04.


His move to the Tardini was recently made permanent, having been on loan from the Nerazzurri.


Last season he scored one goal in just 23 appearances for Parma and was troubled by injuries.

Morfeo is a luxury player by all accounts, he plays when he wants to and refuses to give managers respect, even when ranieri was there he was only used off the bench....still an improvement over Beretta where he refused to even go to the stadium.

He is our fantastista alright but unless he cops on soon enough he will have another season on the sidelines

Morfeo in Melli melee Wednesday 8 August, 2007

Parma insist they will not sell Domenico Morfeo despite sending him home early after a blazing row with team manager Alessandro Melli.

The creative midfielder returned to Italy due to “disciplinary reasons” last night, missing the two Trofeo Colombino friendly matches in Spain.

It has now been confirmed the reason for this move was a furious argument Morfeo had with team manager Melli in front of the squad at the Hotel El Rompilo.

“Certain attitudes cannot be tolerated,” said director of sport Gabriele Zamagna in the ‘Gazzetta dello Sport.’

President Tommaso Ghirardi was informed and the decision was made to send Morfeo straight back to Italy less than 24 hours after arriving with the team in Seville.

Coach Domenico Di Carlo will choose whether or not to welcome him back into the side for next week’s Trofeo Mero tournament with Ravenna and Brescia.

However, the club insisted that this was only a temporary bust-up and that it would not necessarily lead to a transfer.

“Parma have no intention of selling Morfeo. The transfer talk about him is false,” added Zamagna.

There had been reports Morfeo would be handed to Palermo in exchange for Franco Brienza.

The former Atalanta and Fiorentina player is certainly not new to such outbursts and personality clashes.

He famously got into a fist fight with Cagliari Coach Renzo Ulivieri in 1999-00 and was sold to Verona in the January transfer window.

Domenico Morfeo has been fined by Parma after a blazing row with director Sandro Melli, but is let back into the squad.

The creative midfielder had been sent home early from a pre-season tour in Spain for the Trofeo Colombino for “disciplinary reasons.”

It was later he revealed he had a furious argument with team manager Melli in front of the players and other guests at the hotel.

He was expected to be sold after being frozen out of the squad, but this evening Parma decided to end the matter with only a fine and a warning.

There had been reports Morfeo would be sold to Palermo in exchange for Franco Brienza.

Parma midfielder Domenico Morfeo could be banished to Serie C after the fiery stars latest spat with the Ducali.

The 31-year-old is indisputably gifted, but his temperament and appalling disciplinary record has cost him dear.

His latest trouble started when he was sent off within 30 seconds of arriving on the pitch as a substitute against Juventus in Week 12.

It is believed that Morfeo was called for a disciplinary meeting with Coach Domenico Di Carlo and reacted angrily to the sanctions imposed.

The former Inter man is now being linked with a move to Serie C1A challengers Cremonese where he could meet up with former mentor Emiliano Mondonico – the man who launched his career at Atalanta.

Morfeo’s contract expires in June so he may join the Grigiorossi on loan until he becomes a free agent, but Parma will have to help out with at least 30 per cent of his £1m per year salary.

Morfeo nears Parma exit Monday 17 December, 2007

Talented Parma midfielder Domenico Morfeo looks increasingly likely to leave the Stadio Tardini in January after another furious spat with his Coach.

The 31-year-old playmaker has spent periods at Inter and Milan during his career and was regularly tipped for the top.

However, the Abruzzo-born midfielder’s temperament has been his curse and a bitter row with Domenico Di Carlo on Thursday seems to have put the final nail in his Ducali coffin.

“I met his agent, but it’s true that I haven’t spoken to Domenico himself,” Parma President Tommaso Ghirardi told Mediaset.

“We are focused on other players, then in a few days we will see what happens with Morfeo.”

Sources suggest that Morfeo will drop to Serie C1A where promotion chasing Cremonese are believed to be preparing a loan offer.

The move would allow Morfeo to link up with former boss Emiliano Mondonico – the man who launched his career at Atalanta in the 1990s.

Morfeo to be 'the new Baggio' Saturday 19 July, 2008

Troubled Trequartista Domenico Morfeo is hoping to become “the next Roberto Baggio” by reviving his career at Brescia.

The 32-year-old has never really settled at any of his many clubs and was relegated with Parma last season.

In a surprise switch, Brescia completed their swoop for the veteran on a two-year contract.

“I don’t just enjoy signing great champions, but also to see them reborn,” smiled President Gino Corioni.

Some of those who have been through the Stadio Rigamonti include Gheorghe Hagi, Luca Toni, Pep Guardiola and Roby Baggio.

“Morfeo is the right man for us to get back into Serie A. He will be Brescia’s new Baggio, I am certain of it.

“I saw his strength of character and hunger for success. I know he will express his talent at Brescia the way he was unable to at the big clubs. I’ve always had a weakness for special players.”

Morfeo is undoubtedly talented and was once considered the future of Italian football, but he never quite progressed after winning the 1996 European Under-21 Championship.

He has played for Atalanta, Fiorentina, Milan, Cagliari, Verona, Inter and Parma, rarely staying in one place for more than a couple of seasons on the trot.

Morfeo is well known for his fiery character that has seen him pick up red cards on the pitch and problems with tacticians off it.

“I am starting again from Brescia and money is certainly not my motivating factor,” said the midfielder who halved his wages for this move.

“I believe in this project. We can get into Serie A and if we win I’ll certainly stay on next season. It was a shame to leave Parma, though admittedly I miss the fans a lot more than the club. Brescia is my challenge to fly high again.”

And I don't feel the comparison with Baggio makes any sense at all. Morfeo is mental, a fucking lose cannon!
