The general consensus in Parma is that people expect the team to be back in Serie A next season but to be honest I don't think the board are that confident.
They have sold half of each of our midfield starlets (although admittedly Dessena wouldnt get much playing time anyway with the crowded midfield we have).
Our defence was the main reason why we went down and i can't see how one promising player in the form of Troest will fix the leakage. However I do believe the defence is strong enough for Serie B all things considered.
I have never been crazy about Zamagnas attitude towards the transfer market in the past trying to put a team together on a shoe string. But this season something seems to have clicked seeing as he is looking for for young talents in places like Scandinavia. Unearthing rough diamonds was what Parma used to be famed for and I'm glad to see us returning to that.
BUT this is something that should have been done after we had secured ourselves in Serie A.... maybe Ghirardi is serious about building a team for the future but by selling our two promosing midfielders to frankly average Serie A sides either tells me he is and idiot who has run out of money or a genius who sees that we have a chance of getting them back once promotion is secured.
At the moment with players like Morrone and Lucarelli we have one of the stronger squads in Serie B. More that capable of a playoff place. But there is still a long while to go in the transfer window... and Parma are known for culling the squad to the bare minimum over the summer months shipping off players who had declared their loyalty to the club. (Dessena was told he was sold over the phone while he was on vacation!)
I can't say for sure until 7pm on August the 31st but as of right now I think we stand a fighting chance of the playoffs. Cagni certainly knows how to talk the business but whether he shows that out on the pitch is another thing entirely.
