OFFICIAL: Cigarini co-owned by Atalanta

Cigarini wanted by Ranieri Monday 24 December, 2007
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Juventus boss Claudio Ranieri has reportedly asked the club to open negotiations with Parma over a proposed bid for Luca Cigarini.
The Under-21 international is one of Italy’s most promising central midfielders and is wanted by a host of the peninsula’s top clubs.
Although Inter, Milan and Fiorentina have shown an interest, Ranieri is keen on adding the player he bossed last term to his Juventus plans.
It’s alleged that the Turin giants will attempt to net the youngster in January or at the very least grab a summer option for the Azzurrini gem.
Cigarini is understandably keen to make the switch, but the Stadio Tardini outfit obviously want to keep hold of the £6m-rated prodigy.
“There has been some interest in Cigarini from all the big clubs, but he is an important player and he needs to concentrate on his future with us,” noted Parma chief Tommaso Ghirardi earlier this month.
“He will not be moving before June and he will give us a hand. We won’t be making any moves in January at all.”
The 21-year-old, a product of the club’s youth system, is currently tied to the inconsistent Ducali until June 2012.

Yet another quality Parma youth product.

Cigarini agent snubs Viola Friday 4 January, 2008
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Luca Cigarini’s agent claims that the Parma midfield starlet is set for Juventus or Inter, rather than Fiorentina.
The Azzurrini man has caught the eye of several of the peninsula’s top clubs, but Fiorentina had been the side expected to commit to the 21-year-old.
However, Cigarini’s agent Giovanni Bia insists that Serie A’s big guns have tabled offers for his client and will outmuscle the Viola.
“Luca has received many offers, including Inter and Juventus,” he maintained.
“With all due respect to Fiorentina, when clubs like the aforementioned duo come knocking it is hard to say no.”
Cigarini has a five-year contract at the Stadio Tardini and is expected to command a large transfer fee of around £7m.

Ghirardi: Cigarini is worth €18 million no less!
Lungoparma - Il primo quotidiano online di Parma - Calciomercato: tutti sulle tracce di Cigarini, ma il Parma chiede cifre folli
Basically he is saying Cigarini is going nowhere for anything less than 18 million euro. Despite offers of €12 million from Villarreal and €5 million from Torino for co-ownership.
We will either sell him for that price or keep him in B. This is the advantage of finally being backed by money and an owner who is a tough negotiator. Smart move fat-man!

For 18 million quid you'd still interested? More power to Juve then!

We won't pay that and you know it, you'll have to lower your asking price (especially now you're in Serie B).

Ghirardi is under no pressure to sell so why should he lower the asking price? He knows Cigarini would be happy to stay in Parma (he and Dessena have said this)
His message is simple if people want Cigarini then offer up big money or don't bother

So Cigarini would be happy to play (possibly) several seasons in Serie B rather than play in the CL with Juventus?
Nah, I aint having that. As soon as a big club comes knocking he's gonna want out, you can't blame him though.

You really think Ghirardi will settle for a couple of seasons in B?
Why is he trying so hard to keep Budan, Lucarelli, Ciga and Dessena?
Besides they both said they would be happy to wear the shirt next season they never said for several seasons.
At this moment Parma probably have one of the best transfer budgets out of all the B teams and one of the stronger squads and we will look to bounce straight back up and our transfer market this summer will indicate this.
If anything the relegation has kicked Ghirardi into gear and he wants to improve this team quickly and that means hanging onto the talents

Whatever happens though I feel he's going to want to move eventually, he's too talented.

Cigarini sparks bidding war Saturday 28 June, 2008
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Juventus and Fiorentina are fighting on the transfer market for Parma’s Azzurrini starlet Luca Cigarini.
The two clubs are notoriously bitter rivals and are set to race for the signature of Under-21 international Cigarini.
Following Parma’s relegation to Serie B, the midfielder could well be available for a cut-price fee.
Napoli are also interested in Cigarini, but the latest reports have the Viola and Bianconeri leading the way.
He only turned 22 a week ago, but already has 70 Serie A appearances and four goals under his belt.
Part of the Parma youth system, he has spent his entire career at the Tardini save for a one-year loan spell at Serie C1 outfit Sambenedettese in 2004-05.
Fiorentina are eager to take Cigarini as a replacement for the departed Fabio Liverani, who has been released to Palermo.

It's getting interesting, are you sure you won't cash in meccano?

It seems to be that one of Dessena or Cigarini will be going. The managements take is that they may sell Cigarini because they feel he will be easier to replace.....
