Domenico Di Carlo has been appointed as the new Coach of Parma following Claudio Ranieri’s departure.

“Parma announce that a deal has been finalised with boss Domenico Di Carlo, who will Coach the first team,” read a note posted on the club’s website.

“The one-year contract will be effective from July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2008 – with an option to extend it for a further season.

“The new tactician is young but already experienced and is an ideal guide for the Parma project. He will be officially unveiled on Thursday, June 14 at the Collecchio training complex.”

Di Carlo, a former midfielder, replaces Ranieri after he joined Juventus just days after securing the Gialloblu’s Serie A safety.

The 43-year-old tactician started his coaching career with Mantova in 2004, after a short spell with Vicenza’s youth team.

He led the Biancorossi to an immediate promotion to Serie B and the following year obtained a place in the play-offs, where they were defeated by Torino.

Mantova, the first team to defeat Juventus in Serie B, ended the 2006-07 season in eighth place, but Di Carlo chose to not renew his contract and was replaced by Attilio Tesser.

Don't know much about him, but that he is young and will look to make a name for himself. Hope that Parma responds well with him. Wonder what Mecc feels about this?

I think he will do a good job for you. Considered by many to be the best coach in Italy not to have had a Serie A job yet, with a record of building with youngsters.

A guy who came within one game of getting Mantova into Serie A last year and who will be genuinely appreciative of getting his chance on the big stage (i.e., less likely to fuck off for a better deal like the serial managers).

He was the only manager in B to beat Juve, Napoli and Genoa this year.

Excellent coach to have for Ghirardi's ambitions, he wants to build for the future and from what I've heard he is second only to Prandelli at working with young players like Dessena and Cigarini....also Parma are known for plucking coaches out of the blue and making them great Prandelli being the obvious example

However saying that I hope he gets to grip with the squad soon and not have a half season "settling in faze" like Pioli and before him Beretta and that muppet Baldini

This guy is a good coach, he was sort of the "the star" coach to get a job in Serie A, so Skeeta is correct.

I think you have done well here.

Well he's worked miracles at Mantova so I can see why Parma have gone with him.

Bring on the new signings.

Parma favourites for Chievo striker Pellissier
tribalfooball.com - July 02, 2007

Parma remain favourites for Chievo Verona striker Sergio Pellissier, despite competition from three Serie A rivals.
Fiorentina, Atalanta and Sampdoria are all chasing Pellissier, who is leaving Chievo following their relegation at the end of last season.

But Parma president Tommaso Ghirardi is confident of clinching Pellissier's signature and knows his sports director Gabriele Zamagna is close to agreeing terms.

Would be a great signing, we will have plenty of options in attack now

I like Pellissier, definitely good enough to play in Serie A.

Lightbulb Parma in the Media

Duo continue Obinna assault Thursday 16 August, 2007

Parma and Cagliari haven’t given up hope of luring Nigerian hitman Victor Obinna, despite Chievo’s insistence that the prodigy is not for sale.

The powerful 20-year-old is keen to find a Serie A side after the Flying Donkeys were relegated last term, but there is currently an agreement between his owners Inter and the Gialloblu to keep him at the Stadio Bentegodi.

Chievo are determined to keep Obinna at the club as they look to make a swift return to the top flight, but the player’s agent Gaetano Paolillo has revealed that he is ready to leave,

““There are eight squads interested in the player, from big clubs to small ones,” he told Tuttomercatoweb.it.

“Fiorentina are not one of them as they have signed Osvaldo, but Cagliari and Parma are chasing him. Obinna would like to stay in Serie A. Since Chievo’s relegation he has been clear with the club that he doesn’t want to play in Serie B.”

The Ceo’s chances of keeping the Super Eagle at the club were dealt a further blow when they fell at the first hurdle in the Coppa Italia to newly-promoted Cadetti side Ravenna.
