Default Parma crisis deepens

Adriano better join INTER... :x

The financial crisis at Parma has deepened with the news that patron Calisto Tanzi has been arrested as part of the Parmalat scandal. It could result in the club having to sell its top stars like Adriano just to survive.

The dairy giants will be declared bankrupt this week after £2.6bn went missing from their bank accounts.

As Parmalat own 98 percent of the club’s shares, this means AC Parma could go under during the shareholders’ meeting on Wednesday.

“Either Parmalat transfer their credit with the club into funds to increase the capital,” explained director general Patrick Nebiolo, “or the alternative is liquidation.”

If they do manage to find the necessary cash before December 31, then that doesn’t mean the team will survive intact.

Many top stars are expected to be sold during the January transfer window with Hidetoshi Nakata already in advanced negotiations with Bologna.

Adriano too has confessed he could leave the Tardini earlier than predicted. “I did hear about the Parmalat crisis,” said the Brazilian during his Christmas trip back to Rio.

“It is a terrible affair and I hope it can be solved quickly. I don’t know what my future holds, but obviously it will be affected by this situation.”

Adriano is half-owned by Inter, but as Parma retain the other 50 percent of his contract they can offer it to the highest bidder. The major stumbling block for the Nerazzurri is the fact that Chelsea are interested in taking the giant Brazilian striker.

Other players who could move on include Gilardino – who is being tracked by Juventus – Ferrari, Bonera, Bresciano and another Chelsea target Sebastien Frey.
