Dumb decision by Lopera. Bet he is jealous of Sevilla's recent success.
Cuper is a great coach imo and i'm surprised that he hasn't made a very big name for himself. 2 back to back champions league titles and inter on top of the table till the last day.
Betis don't need this right now. They have the quality, but aren't showing it. A great example is Sobis who has been really disappointing.

MD16 FT: Real Betis 3-1 Almeria
Positive result for Betis. They now need to continue like this to get away from the relegation zone.

The Athletic keeper gets hit with a bottle
Just four minutes after they re-took the lead, Athletic goalkeeper Armando was hit by a bottle thrown from the crowd and had to be stretched off the field of play while visibly bleeding from the impact.

Betis Sign Monzon From Boca Juniors
Official: Betis Snap Up Monzón
Quote:
Real Betis have muscled out German side Hamburg SV to win the race for the signature of Argentine left back Luciano Monzón.
Spanish sports daily, Marca has confirmed that Real Betis have completed the signing of Argentine left back, Luciano Monzón from Boca Juniors for €9 million.
The 21 year old had looked set to join Bundesliga side Hamburg SV last week after a pre-agreement had been reached with Boca. But while the player was still in China on Olympic duty, the deal was not officialized in ink, thus giving Betis an opportunity to make a late approach for the left back.
And the Andalucian outfit appear to have won the battle after signing the youngster to a five year contract. Monzón had, in fact, already landed in Seville to complete his medical yesterday and made a brief appearance in front of the media.
“I am very happy to have signed for Betis and I want to thank the club for showing their confidence in me to pursuit and complete this deal,” he beamed.
Betis will fork out €2.5 million in cash to Boca immediately while the rest of the transfer fee will be paid off from June 2009 onwards.

Afer his performances in the olympic games, many clubs were after Monzon, who was probably the best defender in the tournament. 9 millions is a good deal imo, he has the potential to become one of the best in the world... I hope he does well in la liga.

Betis look like they have a really good squad put together this season. They have new recruits in Nelson (6m euros) and Monzon (9m euros) for the wingback positions. As well as Emana (7m euros) for central midfield along with Mehmet Aurelio (Free Transfer). Also now Sergio Garcia for the Right Wing or Support striker position (10m euros).
That's 32m euros plus in new recruits for this season. I hope they didn't do what I think they did and spent money they didn't have because this could really backfire. They spent hardly anything after they lost Joaquin and Oliveira so maybe they had that money squirrelled away in savings.
They've already got a solid backbone to the team in Juanito the CB and captain, Mark Gonzalez if he'll start now, Edu the quality wideman, Odonkor can be used as an impact sub. Ricardo the Portuguese keeper is often on the bench but I think he'll get his chances for the first team. As well as Rivera, Melli, Vega, Damia, Arzu, Pavone, they could get a top half finish this season or it could be disasterous financially.
Betis usually play a 4-2-3-1 so the possible squad if we stuff all the best players in could be......
------------------------------ Ricardo
-- Nelson ------- Arzu/Melli ----------- Juanito -------- Monzon
--------------------- Emana ----------- Aurelio
-- Edu ------------------ Sergio Garcia --------- Mark Gonzalez
----------------------------- Pavone
They'll want Europe but a 10th place finish would be a good start for them.
