Betis lost their first pre-season game 4-2 to Cueta. Cuper obviously very annoyed about that.

Betis need to use some of the £26m they got from Oliveira and Joaquin on new signings but I think that the ex-President and main stock holder Manuel Luiz de Lopera must have taken a huge chunk of that money for himself (so greedy he named the stadium after himself ).

Sobis and Odonkor weren't impressive last season and if they don't start signing then they'll finish in the lower half again and may fight against relegation.

Lima Pens Five Year Betis Deal

Betis have landed Brazilian defender Lima from Corinthians as they continue to rebuild under Hector Cuper...

Lima has put pen to paper at Real Betis on a 5 year contract in a transfer worth 3 million euros.

The former Corinthians youth has been on an extended loan at Atletico Miniero, but now his agent says that he is "crazy" about the prospect of lining up for the verdiblancos.

The agent continued, "He's very excited. He comes with the intention of staying. He's spoken very well of the club and the city."

The centre-back, aged 22 and almost 6 feet tall, is Betis' fifth signing of the summer, and is described by his new club as being "powerful, with great technique."

Tomorrow he will undergo medical tests in Seville, where he is already staying. He also must ensure that his Italian ancestry papers are in order, so that he will not count as one of three designated foreigners in the Beticos squad.

Spanish club Villarreal have loaned out Argentine midfielder Leandro Somoza to Real Betis in a deal that will be worth 4.5 million euros if Betis purchase the player’s full rights at the end of the season.

Somoza, who is 25 years of age, will reinforce Hector Cuper’s Real Betis side for the new season, as they look to improve on last season’s effort.

Somoza was supposed to be the next Senna but things didn't turn out like that for him last season. Vogel might leave Betis soon so Somoza has been brought in to sure up that midfield. Personally if I was Betis boss then I'd try and sign 1-2 defenders and maybe a striker as a lot of the pressure will be put on Pavone this season.

What a great detail by Real Betis.

After the draw against Recreativo (1-1); The betis team bus stopped by Virgen del Rocío Hospital, for the team to stop by and visit him. The Betis's; Pepe Leon and Captains went to the room to visit and were greeted by Sevilla's Vice President. Not all the players got down, of course, but they all supported the idea of visiting the dude.

Now that's something great, if you ask me.

Cuper: Riquelme Could Still Join Real Betis

Hector Cuper, the manager of Real Betis, affirmed his interest in out of favour Argentine midfielder Juan Roman Riquelme, who is unlikely to be taken into consideration by Villarreal boss Manuel Pellegrini this season.


The highly rated Argentine manager told Radio Publica de Andalucia that he is more than aware of Riquelme's extraordinary quality, and hopefully his side will be able to come to a financial agreement with Villarreal to bring him to Betis this season.

Betis have shown huge interest in the player, and the fact that they signed two players, Somoza and Jose Mari, from Villarreal this season, means they are in the club's good books, and there's a good possibility that both parties could come to an agreement.

But what could put a halt to the negotiations are the high wages the playmaker is expecting to receive, and whether Betis have the sufficient financial resources to pay the player atleast 3 million euros each season.

A little more than a month ago Atletico Madrid tried to lure Riquelme to their club, but the Argentine international rejected the deal after not settling to receive a substancial pay cut.

Cuper declared to reporters that a player of his calibre would do a lot of good to Betis both on the field and through marketing, and Manuel Ruiz de Lopera and Fernando Roig could come to an agreement in the next few days.

Betis finally win a game this season and by a large margin. But that was mainly due to ballesteros getting sent off before the halftime break for mallorca.Guiza also got a red card in the 90th min, but it didn't really matter at that point, though they will find it difficult next week against getafe without their top goalscorer.

Great to see sobis get on the scoresheet. He hasn't looked nothing like the player he was at internacional. Hopefully this goal will give him a boost and this win will help betis play better in the future.

Shame mallorca's great start to the season didn't continue. They could've moved up to 6th place.

Just 2 wins in 14 games for Cuper. Betis are 2nd bottom at the moment.

A few Betis fans feel that Cuper may have been the right coach for them but what they want out is the money guzzling board. Betis has the talent in the squad to get a UEFA Cup place but the club is rotten to the core.

Soldado would be a good signing as Pavone has the responsibility of being the only decent striker in the squad.
