Very different results for Villarreal in the first 2 match days.
3-0 against Valencia, but Valencia were pretty poor.
5-0 loss to real Madrid and was pretty surprising. They looked very sluggish, couldn't keep up with real madrids fast pace in the second half.

Round 6 : Villarreal V Athetlic Bilbao
Villarreal 1 - 0 Athetlic Bilbao
Fuentes(62)
Atheltic were very unlucky. They were very good in the first half, dominating play, but they lacked that cutting edge.
Aduriz had a very good game and they should have taken advantage of all the set pieces that came their way. Big blow that yeste was out and susaeta is a still bit too inexperienced to start in a game like this.
Rossi looked great for villarreal once again.

Uefa Cup MD1: Villarreal v Fiorentina
1-1
______________________Capdevila(88) _______________Vieri(48)
Lucky draw for Villarreal. Fiorentina deserved to win this game. They totally controlled the first half which surprised me… because of villarreals great run so far this season and after beating Barcelona 3-1.… I thought they would put in a great performance.
Fiorentina had 2 goals ruled out off because of offside…but both mutu/vieiri’s goals should’ve stood.

Villarreal are currently 2nd in La Liga after Matchday 12. They've got 27 points, 1 less than Real Madrid who are first.
They look like they'll challenge for the title this season, if not then definately top 4.
Rossi is equal second in the Pichichi with 7 goals and they have a young squad with a core of experienced heads.

Villareal vs Betis 0-1
Scored to Betis: Jose Capi [10']
Villareal are 7 points behind Real Madrid. They took only one point out of 9 possible points in the last 3 games !!!!!!

They're starting to screw up. They need to start picking up the points if they want a CL place. I haven't been watching their games regularly but maybe Giuseppe Rossi's absence is having an effect on their scoring as that's 1 goal in their last 3 games against Almeria, Valladolid and Betis of which they've only taken 1 point.

Pellegrini Signs On Until 2010
Quote:
Manuel Pellegrini has signed a new deal at Villareal, keeping him in charge of the Yellow Submarine until 2010...
Manuel Pellegrini will become one of La Liga's longest-serving managers if he sees out his new deal with Villarreal, having signed on until 2010.
Club president Fernando Roig yesterday announced a two year extension to the Chilean boss' current deal, much to the surprise of some.
It came as a shock not because it was felt that Pellegrini would be allowed to leave without a fight next summer, when his old contract expired, but rather because rumours abounded of offers from elsewhere, not least from the English Premier League.
However, after a meeting between the president and the boss, a new deal was quickly thrashed out, with the club hierarchy being anxious to maintain some stability at the Madrigal.
The former River Plate boss took over in Vila-Real in 2004, leading them to an unprecedented third place in La Liga.
The following year, Villarreal were inches away from a Champions League final, only to be edged out by Arsenal in the semis.
Now, Pellegrini's men are challenging for a top four place and are set to progress in the UEFA Cup, indicating that perhaps the president's faith in the coach is not misplaced.
Most telling of all, though, was the club's unwavering support for Pellegrini during his dispute with superstar Juan Roman Riquelme, who had been frozen out at the club since January before being moved on to Boca Juniors recently.

Good sense from Villarreal to tie down their most valuable asset to the club until 2010. Should be a lot harder for other clubs to pull him away now due to the higher compensation package. So far he's done an almost as good job as Ramos did with Sevilla.
